Description
Godet XO Organic Gastronome Cognac
If ever there was a Cognac that addresses the sensitive issues of the times we live in, then it has to be the Godet XO Organic Gastronome. This Extra Old, single vintage, single lot Cognac was harvested in 2004, and complies to the very stringent legal factors that make it able to proclaim itself, ‘organic’. The best description of Gastronome is that it’s an ultra-dry Cognac. It’s a wholly Fins Bois eau-de-vie that’s been created from start to finish without the use of chemicals, pesticides, or any artificial components. In this age of climate change and other environmental challenges, the choice to make Gastronome a completely organic product is both insightful and perceptive, It’s also a wonderful example of just how good such a Cognac can taste.
Godet Cognac: Where family is everything
The story behind Godet Cognac, and this Organic delight in particular, is a fascinating one. In 1838, Augustin Godet crafted the XO that would become known as Gastronome. He deliberately made it as dry as possible in order to be the perfect Cognac to aid digestion. Today’s Gastronome remains faithful to this original recipe and Godet Cognac is today in the hands of three brother—Jean Edouard, Maxime, and Cyril.
Back in 2016, this trio of highly enlightened young men took the monumental decision to make this signature blend a 100% organic product. It’s amazing to think that almost two centuries after the original concept of Gastronome came to light, that it would continue to be produced, but with the conscious effort to highlight and address some of the aspects facing out planet today. How to best enjoy Godet XO Organic Gastronome Cognac
Being as this is a Cognac that’s specifically designed to aid digestion, then it really does lend itself to be enjoyed in the traditional manner. That is, after a good meal, perhaps hand warmed, or allowed to sit in a tulip or balloon glass for up to 10 minutes before drinking. This age-old method allows the liquid to warm to room temperature. In addition, during this time you can enjoy the aromas as they develop, and it only heightens one’s anticipation before you take that first sip. Of course, there’s always the option of drinking it on the rocks. The addition of a block or two of ice subtly changes the taste experience. Or if you’re truly adventurous, place the bottle in the freezer and try it icy cold.

About Godet Cognac
The house of Godet has been run by the family for 14 generations. It is a perfect example of a cognac house that deeply believes in the tradition of this spirit and its origins. At the same time, Godet manages to move with modern times, having recently created a cognac from a grape that is almost extinct in the cognac industry: Folle Blache. This cognac is called "Antarctica Godet" and was inspired by a 2-month sailing trip to the South Pole.
