Description

Frédéric Mestreau XO No.28 Fine Champagne: a Historic Revival

The Frédéric Mestreau XO No.28 Fine Champagne Cognac has spent over a decade masterfully maturing in Limousin oak casks. It comprises eaux-de-vie distilled using exclusively Ugni Blanc grapes from two crus - the  Petite and Grande Champagne - in order to produce a formidable Fine Champagne expression of pure excellence. The result is a is an exemplary expression of terroir, showing supple tannins complemented by a silky texture as well as mature notes of leather and dried fruits.

Founded in 1808, the Frédéric Mestreau estate produced Cognac until 1919, when the post-war period brought a dip in sales. Almost a century after this Maison closed its doors, Guilhem Grosperrin, an avid Cognac collector, was given the opportunity to purchase 250 bottles of early 19th century Cognacs from Abel Mestreau's personal collection. Today, the brand has been revived with the launch of the No 28 XO Fine Champagne Cognac. Described as "a very fine XO" that's "great for sipping", this particular Mestreau masterpiece has attracted a great deal of attention since its release, not least thanks to its reasonable price tag.

Serving Suggestion

The complex tasting notes of this Cognac are best showcased in a tulip glass. After pouring, allow the liquor to breathe for 30 seconds to fully concentrate the delicate aromas before you take a sip. An excellent digestif or accompaniment to a cheeseboard.

About Mestreau Cognac

Founded in 1808, Frédéric Mestreau is an important brand in the world of Cognac. It, unfortunately, as many do, fell by the wayside in 1919 and has since remained dormant. All that has changed in recent years, thanks to a recent purchase of Cognac Mestreau made by Guilhem Grosperrin, a man who is well versed in buying older, rare bottles from the most remote of corners in the region, and reselling them to Cognac lovers everywhere.
