Description
François Voyer Extra Old Gold
Since its arrival in 2007, the Francois Voyer XO Gold has certainly turned heads, having wowed the judges and Cognac lovers everywhere. Matured in oak barrels deep in the cellars of the Voyer estate for 20 to 30 years, its eaux-de-vie qualify as part of the Extra Old age category. The Grande Champagne terroir is known as the Premier cru within the region due to its chalky soil, making it porous and producing very fine Cognacs. The Paradise Cellar at Francois Voyer contains a sublime selection of eaux-de-vie which have been carefully put together for the XO Gold. For something that truly stands out from the crowd, the Voyer XO Gold is certainly the best choice due to its rich flavors that titillate the palate. It is known for its delicate assemblage of eaux-de-vie, and is a popular Cognac with some of the finest restaurants in France.
The philosophy behind the Francois Voyer Cognac Maison is one of double distilling their own artisanal produce. Such technique is practiced across all of their Cognacs, which span a range of ages, with the youngest at least 20 years old.
How to enjoy Francois Voyer Extra Old Gold Cognac
The bottle features an engraving of the elegant Voyer horse, the estate’s emblem. It comes packed in a luscious orange and gold box which reflects the amber colors of their high-quality, matured XO Cognac.
Voyer XO Gold is best enjoyed neat or on the rocks. We advise not to use this quality Cognac for mixing. Although it could make your cocktail taste even more delicious, it might also be a bit of a waste. Leave the Cognac to sit in your glass for around 8-10 minutes before trying it to allow the aromas to develop properly. Enjoy it cold as an afterwork drink, or on its own at room temperature after a delicious meal.
Read on our blog about the time that we went to the Francois Voyer Cognac maison to take a look at the inner workings of this incredible artisanal house. Upon visiting Prowein 2015, we were introduced to the XO Gold by Pierre Vaudon, the Cellar Master, and subsequently joined the ranks of its many award givers, and placed the Voyer XO Gold in our 2016 Top 10 Cognacs.

The most expensive cognac
I have ordered so far from Cognac Expert. And also the best by absolute standards. No sharp, but a pleasant spicy scent flows from the glass after the cognac was poured. After a few minutes it becomes exotic aromas, comparable to chocolate with fruit and pepper (aka Zotter). In the mouth I perceive...
A very enjoyable and bargain XO!!
Initially there is spices and pepper on the nose, with subtle fruit in the background. As it opens, the fruit shines through more, with peach at the rim of the glass. After several more minutes, that peach and fruit really shine, with the spice now playing second fiddle. A lovely and well-balanced...
Well Rounded and Rich
This is a great Cognac. This raked 4th for me in a 16 Cognac blind tasting conducted over 2 days. The usual "fruit bowl" is present here but well rounded and rich. A little wood, a little spice, a little floral, but dominantly fruit forward. Ever so slightly oily which is hard to find in Cognac. Nicely...
