Comandon XO Extra Old Single Batch
Enjoy the rich flavors and aromas of a wonderful Cognac from a boutique brand that let nature do the talking. The Comandon Extra Old is well balanced, and carefully crafted bottle that has been recognized by critics as an excellent Cognac. This Cognac house seek a sense of youth and vitality in their blends; by amassing over 80 different eaux-de-vie, they are looking to find the most unique assemblage that will give their XO character. It is aged a lot longer than the legal requirement for an Extra Old Cognac, and so has a series of incredible aromas. The XO Cognac typically comprises a selection of eaux-de-vie from the Borderies, Fins Bois, Petite Champagne and Grande Champagne crus depending on the cask. Tyoically aged between 20 and 30 years, it is matured in red Limousin barrels to give the Cognac its aromatic quality.
The XO Cognac by Comandon looks for both maturity, but also indications of freshness that will appeal to the senses. This is a unique process in comparison to a lot of Cognac houses, who blanketly believe that the older the age, the better the Cognac. It is instead, a concentrated set of aromas with strength and a complex structure.
The philosophy of the Comandon XO
The single batch quality gives it a rare, limited feel that shows just how much Comandon work in tandem with nature and what is produced by the terroir. Once it has been sold and enjoyed, there is no more of this particular blend; and a rare blend it is. For that reason, they only produce in small quantities to focus on the blend itself instead of trying to duplicate the same spirit over and over again. Usually, each batch will contain less than 2000 bottles of which are numbered by hand.
How to enjoy the Comandon Extra Old Cognac
Each bottle is handpicked and packaged by hand, to illustrate the artisan and independent quality of this Cognac house. It arrives in a wide decanter with a stylish metal cap. The box is simple, understated and lets the Cognac speak for itself. Each bottle is thoughtfully signed by the owner. It should be enjoyed on ice or neat.
