Eye: Dark amber with mahogany reflections.

Nose: Delicate scents of flowers: narcissus, jasmine, honeysuckle. Multifaceted touches of tawny port and walnut followed by subtle wood notes of cedarwood and cigar box.

Palate: Dominated by candied tangerine, apricot and pear. Velvety and complex with an incredible finish that lingers on the palate.

Aromatic Explorations: Kelt Christopher Columbus XO Cognac

Created in 1991 for the 500-year jubilee of Christopher Columbus’ journey to America in 1492, Kelt Christopher Columbus XO Cognac is part of this producer’s Explorer Collection. For this blend, the House of Kelt have used casks between 15 and 18 years of age, though the exact composition and details are a closely guarded secret known only to two persons within the company.

All Kelt Cognac are aged at sea, following a set route around the world. Safely stored on a westward-bound ship, the casks are filled to just under three-quarters full so that the liquid can move and has a large enough surface for the ideal amount of alcohol to evaporate. This voyage takes between 90 and 110 days, and when the casks return they are rested for around three to five months before being transferred to bottles. The aim is to produce Cognacs similar to those of the past, when many spirits were subjected to epic oceanic journeys. It’s even possible to track the location of current shipments via Kelt’s website.

Presentation of the Bottle

It’s not just its transatlantic maturation process that makes this Cognac so distinctive: the bottle itself displays a unique design that is sure to start many conversations. The geometric patterns of the glass are allowed to shine, offset by a simple gold plaque and a natural cork stopper. With its elegant presentation box, this would make a wonderful gift for any adventurous Cognac lover.

How to Enjoy Kelt Christopher Columbus XO Cognac

This is a Cognac to savor slowly. Enjoy it neat, or on a warmer day, why not drop in some ice for a subtly different tasting experience. This expression is particularly suited for after dinner and late evening enjoyment; serve in tulip glasses and allow the spirit to sit for about 30 seconds before taking a sip.
