Eye: Coppery with amber shades.

Nose: Very fruity aromas, dry and some toasted almonds and hazelnuts. Remarkable aromas of sweet spices reminiscent of nutmeg and saffron.

Palate: Fresh, very round and with a long finish. The Rancio Charentais is very present, with slight spices here and there.

Description

Chateau de Montifaud Extra Old Cognac

Hailing from the Fine Petite Champagne terroir is a light and fresh Cognac - the Chateau de Montifaud XO. With this Cognac, they have chosen to put the spotlight on the wonders of this cru in particular to show its own traits and qualities. The result is a smooth Extra Old Cognac that is on average around 28 to 30 years old. It includes eaux-de-vie from distillations of 1963, 1965 and 1967. The Petite Champagne is famous for its soil; the signature composition is chalky and able to produce Cognac to age with complexity and with great depth. The combination of eaux-de-vie from this fine terroir result in a non-tannic Cognac with little taste of spirit, and an excellent rancio. The aromas of dried fruits and slight almond nuttiness means that it is an ideal choice if you prefer a lighter Cognac.

Cognac from the Chateau Montifaud Estate

The Vallet family have perfected their technique and passed along their Cognac heritage for generations. They prefer generally to create separate expressions of the Grande and Petite Champagne terroirs respectively. The XO is aged in red oak barrels, and then a second time in old barrels. The grapes are placed into small presses (50hl) as soon as they get to the winery to avoid any oxidation. During the different phases of Cognac production (winemaking, distillation and aging) they use artisanal technique. Head to our blog for an insight into the cellars of the Chateau de Montifaud and their family-run Cognac maison.

How to enjoy the Chateau de Montifaud XO

The Extra Old Cognac from Chateau de Montifaud goes great paired with food such as rich desserts. Try praline desserts, old cheddar, or creme brulee. Serve it in a fine balloon glass and warm it gently in the palm of your hand beforehand. The bottle is tall and slim, with the family crest and small icon of the estate on the bottle. The labeling is traditional.

About Château de Montifaud

Owned by the family Vallet for six generations, Chateau de Montifaud Cognac boasts 125 hectares of vineyards that are located in both the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne growing regions. The house produces a large, high quality range of cognacs – including various vintages from years that have had an exceptional harvest. One family tradition that Cognac Chateau Montifaud is proud to follow, is that of when a new baby boy is born to the head of the cognac house, that part of the cognac created from that year’s harvest is set to one side. This is kept for a varying number of years, but may only be sold by future generations.
