Description
Chainier XO Grande Champagne Cognac: a Premier Cru Treasure
This wonderful old Cognac has spent over two decades aging in Limousin oak casks protected by thick cellar walls underneath the House of Chainier. It has been produced exclusively with eaux-de-vie sourced from the Premier Cru, and Chainier XO Grande Champagne Cognac certainly expresses all the complexity and elegance you’d expect from this esteemed region. Aged for significantly longer than what is required by law for an XO designation, this is a great-value product that would delight any Cognac lover.
Chainier is a small artisanal Cognac house producing high-quality Cognacs from their estate in the heart of the Petite Champagne region. Passed down through generations, the House of Chainier utilizes grapes sourced from their two vineyards spanning across both the Grande Champagne and the Petite Champagne regions, which means their eaux-de-vie benefit from both soils of exceptional quality and proximity to the ocean. It is then down to the expertise and savoir-faire of the distiller and master blender to work their magic in developing the delicious Cognac. With this XO expression, they have combined all the qualities of Premier Cru eaux-de-vie with a lengthy maturation process, bringing out all the complexities you’d expect from an XO Cognac - and more.
Presentation of the Bottle
The Chainier XO Grande Champagne Cognac comes in a tall, straight bottle, a classic style which was originally popular in the 19th century. The stylish retro label features the Chainier emblem and the bottle is sealed with foil around the neck.

For nut lovers
Got a 10cl bottle of this as part of tasting set 1. The nose has a rich nutty base with nutmeg, spearmint and a hint of lilac. Arrival on the palate is very soft, with gentle peaches and pears then the nuttiness returns followed by a minty wash. The mint lingers on, but is quickly wrapped in warm...
Bargain XO
A lovely fresh fruit bouquet greets the nose, along with some subtle nuttiness. As it opens, some mild spice appears. It’s a wonderfully youthful nose, but not young. This is somewhat silky and velvety in the mouth, and is medium bodied. The palate starts rather dry with that fruit, and finishes...
Chainier XO Grande Champagne
Tasted as a part of the Tasting Set No. 1: Decent nose with spicy (vanilla, white pepper) and fruity components mingled with some nice pastry notes. The palate is fresh, light and fruity, some vanilla again together with sweet fruits (pears, pineapples). The finish is short to medium on the same...
Chainier XO GC
Just opened this bottle, and it seems a revelation. There is no sharpness in the throat, it comes from below! Exceptionally charming feeling, it comes up in grades to the nose and palate. Fantastic aromatic XO, exciting flair. On my list ,and I tried a lot of such, it is the best experience so far...
Chainier XO Grande Champagne
Nose: Nice nose here! It smells like there is a lovely alliance between fruit and spice. It does not have the age where a strong oak signature might stick out, and even though twenty years old is anything but young for a Cognac, it does not yet have the maturity to hit the wafty aroma profile like...
