Description

A wonderful limited edition for the Year of the Pig

The Baron Otard XO Gold Chinese New Year Edition is a travel retail specific Cognac that’s been released, as the name suggests, for the Chinese New Year. As we head into the Year of the Pig this limited edition will certainly be sought after as a seasonal gift. This large, 1 liter size of this award winning Extra Old Cognac is presented in a delightful gold colored tin, embossed with black branding, and featuring a stamped mosaic tile pattern. Within the tin, in addition to the Cognac itself, is a booklet that tells the delightful story of Baron Otard Cognac.

The historic brand of Baron Otard

The history of this brand is fascinating, with a story worth its own booklet that’s contained within the golden tin. The house of Baron Otard is based in the Chateau de Cognac, a remarkable late 11th century house that was build to defend against the Vikings and the English. In the 15th century it was rebuilt for the Valois family. In fact, the future King of France, Francois I, was born within its very walls. It was founded as a Cognac house in 1795 by the brand’s namesake, Baron Otard.  We were lucky enough to have a wonderful visit to this wonderful Cognac castle. Discover more about the brand and its history in our blog, Visiting the Medieval Cognac Castle of Baron Otard.

How to enjoy the Baron Otard XO Gold Cognac

This is a Cognac that really does deserve to be tasted in the traditional manner. Drink it neat, perhaps hand warmed, and from a tulip glass or brandy balloon to fully appreciate the myriad of aromas and flavors this top quality Cognac presents.

Of course, the stunning presentation means that this certainly isn’t a Cognac that should be hidden away in a cabinet. One peek inside the luxurious gold presentation tin brings you the delight of a tear-shaped decanter that gently cradles its precious contents. On the top is a gold colored dimpled ‘crown’ that compliments and matches the pattern and color of the golden tin.

An Award-Winning Cognac

The Baron XO Gold has consistently won many awards over the years. These include:

  • IWSC 2011 – Bronze Medal
  • IWSC 2012 - Silver Outstanding
  • IWSC 2013 - Silver Medal
  • IWSC 2014 - Silver Medal
  • IWSC 2015 - Silver Outstanding

About Otard Cognac

With an ancient tradition tracing back to the Middle Ages, and to the great Norwegian Viking Ottar, this Cognac dynasty has an incredibly unique history. Around the same period, the iconic Chateau de Cognac was built on the banks of the Charente, and was largely associated with the French monarchy. Eventually, the two histories would merge with the arrival of the Cognac Maison Otard, founded in 1795. Today, the Chateau is the home of Baron Otard Cognac, who are amongst the most recognized in quality. The elegant teardrop bottles are a beautiful symbol for the simultaneously traditional and modern values of Cognac Otard.
