Tasting review

Eye: Golden amber with intense copper and mahogany hues.

Nose: A subtle fruity, floral and oaky nose with dominant notes of candied citrus and black cherry. Candied fruit - orange, pear, plums and cherry - beautifully marry with those of toffee, licorice and oak. Finally, some hints of black tea, tobacco and cigar box set in.

Palate: Big, round and well-balanced structure. Flavors of black cherry jam and marmalade nicely lead into vanilla, with subtle notes of oak, toasted almonds, black pepper and spice. Long finish with a hint of leather.

Growth area & soil: Fine Champagne

Petite Champagne
Grande Champagne

Description

A de Fussigny Fine Champagne XO: Straight from the Heart of Cognac

The A de Fussigny XO Cognac is a Fine Champagne blend, meaning that it contains a minimum of 50% Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie, with the rest coming from Petite Champagne. It’s a well-deserving multi-award winner, with a taste as contemporary and delicious as the bottle in which it’s presented. This is a wonderful choice to add to any liquor collection. The blend of Champagne terroirs, along with the maturation process of at least ten years being carried out in the humid cellars of A de Fussigny’s location by the River Charente, has created a wonderfully aromatic and elegant Cognac.

The Grande and Petite Champagne growing areas, famous for their calcareous soil, undulating hills and sheltered climate, are known for creating eaux-de-vie with a superb balance of floral, fruity and spicy notes. There’s a reason why this place is so renowned for the quality of their grapes; the deep chalky soil here allows for consistent growing conditions and steady maturation of grapes even during the hottest summers.

Located on the banks of the Charente river, the A de Fussigny estate's distillery and cellars date back to 1814, rich in a history of gabarres passing by on barges, transporting and trading the precious eaux-de-vie and wine that have made this region so famous. Thanks to the wonderful location on the river, the large wooden doors of the house opened out onto the miraculous transport system that was offered by the innocuous waters of this mighty waterway. The 200-year-old cellars here facilitate a slow maturation process in a stable humid environment facilitated by the microclimate of the Charente, allowing the Cognac to develop all the flavors and quality which represent the hallmarks of this brand.

Combining the best grapes with the best conditions for aging? The result can only be outstanding.

Presentation of the Bottle

When it comes to contemporary presentation, then the A de Fussigny XO is second to none. Encased in a decanter that would be as stunning on a dressing table as it is in a drinks cabinet, this is definitely a Cognac to be discussed (and enjoyed) at length. It’s certainly the ideal bottle to give as a gift for anyone who enjoys the finer things in life. The striking packaging is the perfect presentation for the contemporary liquor it gently cradles within.

Note that this bottling is 500ml, and has also been released in a larger 700ml bottle.

How to Best Enjoy A de Fussigny XO Cognac

This delicious XO is best enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or with a dash of water to further open up its complex taste profile of fruity, floral, and oaky tones. Pour into a tulip glass and allow the nose to open out at room temperature over 8-10 minutes. If you’re truly adventurous, and enjoy your Cognac as an addition to your favorite cocktail, then it’s more than bold enough to sip this way.

Being of an Extra Old Quality, this delicious Fine Champagne Cognac is the perfect complement to caramel or chocolate-based desserts, and also pairs well with a strong cigar.

About A de Fussigny Cognac

Located in the historical center of Cognac, France, A de Fussigny Cognac was established in 1814 on the banks of the iconic Charente River. The brand pushes the idea of modern luxury, incorporating tradition, authenticity and craftsmanship with modernity and innovation. The estate's 200-year-old cellar has a particularly humid environment thanks to its proximity to the river, meaning the maturation process produces a high quality and unique character to Fussigny’s Cognac. The estate boasts a selection of Cognacs from all growing terroirs, but focuses primarily on distilling eaux-de-vie from the prestigious Fine Champagne region (Petite and Grande Champagne), utilising the rich soils to concentrate on high quality and a distinct flavor profile. Using ancestral expertise and savoir-faire, the estate's seasoned cellar master blends the finest selection of eaux-de-vie to produce a particular finesse to each flavor, adding a complex character to each individual Cognac.

A de Fussigny Cognac has a no-plastic policy, ensuring they do not use or create plastic waste for their packaging.
