Description

Prunier VSOP Cognac: a Classic of its Genre

The Prunier VSOP Cognac is a wonderful example of how a blend of terroirs can come together, even after a relatively short maturation, to create something truly special. A mix of eaux-de-vie from the Fins Bois and Bons Bois terroirs, the attention to detail applied to all Prunier blends remains unchanged here, with the VSOP being aged for five to seven years in small oak casks in order to achieve maximum oxidation and therefore a natural smoothness, which is most evident on the Cognac's finish.

The Prunier VSOP perfectly encapsulates everything that Maison Prunier holds true - heritage, traditional distillation methods, superb quality and of course, the young spirit and innovative mind of the master blenders, who have been taking Prunier in new and exciting directions for some years now.

Described as a "classic of its genre", this expression has a wonderful selection of sweet and fruity flavors. Its nose and palate perfectly represent the two crus it contains, with floral and fruity notes being a typical quality found in Fins Bois and Bons Bois eaux-de-vie. The fresh flavor profile of the VSOP is a true celebration of the versatility of a younger Cognac, and the delicacy of a blend of this age can create many an opportunity for a mixologist.

Prunier VSOP may be one of the youngest Cognacs in the esteemed Maison's collection, but it certainly delivers on flavor. The delicate and balanced expressions of the Cognac make it the ideal ingredient for a summer cocktail or mixed into a long drink with tonic water or ginger ale.

Presentation of the Bottle

Housed in a tall and slender bottle, the Prunier VSOP has deep orange and red tones on its label, which perfectly compliment the pale golden color of the Cognac stored inside. The design is understated and elegant, only allowing the VSOP to express itself fully upon that very first sip. The bottle also comes with a cardboard presentation case for gifting or storage purposes.

How to Enjoy Prunier VSOP Cognac

The Prunier VSOP is perfect as a spirit base for a cocktail or can be enjoyed on its own over ice as a refreshing digestif or aperitif.

The sweet and fruity accents found in this Cognac make it the ideal ingredient in a Brandy Fix, as the tart ingredients it contains are balanced by the notes of mango and caramel found in the VSOP:

  • Shake 1 fl. oz of Prunier VSOP with 0.5 fl. oz of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 fl. oz of pineapple juice, 0.25 fl. oz of simple syrup and a dash of Yellow Chartreuse. Make sure to shake hard so the pineapple juice becomes foamy.
  • Strain into a tumbler or rocks glass filled with crushed ice (if you have it), and top with a lemon zest and maraschino cherry to garnish.

The subtle notes of tea, honey and peaches found in Prunier VSOP would pair well with a red wine-poached pear or perhaps an apple cinnamon tart. These pairings allow the deeper flavors of the desert to be lifted by the lighter aromas of the Cognac.
