Description

A decade’s worth of slow maturation: A 10-Year Old Petite Champagne VSOP

As with all eaux-de-vie from this excellent Cognac house, they are aged far beyond the normal requirement. A VSOP, for example, is usually aged for at least 3 years - but the Michel Bureau VSOP Cognac has an average age of 10 years. That’s a decade of sleeping in oak casks, developing their full aromatic potential.

What’s more, this VSOP blend is crafted entirely from grapes grown in the Petite Champagne. The result is a fine and fragrant Cognac, with sweet, vanilla pod aromas. The length is everything you would hope from a Petite Champagne Cognac.

This Cognac is the perfect digestif companion, and will match a number of cocktails and cooking recipes quite beautifully. It has spent well over a decade aging in oak barrels, and is double distilled according to Charentais methods.

The vineyards of Michel Bureau Cognac are committed to the path of Conservation Agriculture and becoming ‘viticulturists’; in fact their estates are in the process of being given an HVE certificate for High Environment Value.

The Petite Champagne terroir is around 66,000 hectares in size, with more than 15,200 hectares dedicated to vines alone for Cognac production. Similar to that of the esteemed Grande Champagne, the soil is made up of clay and a more compact layer of chalky soil. The calcareous soil is the result of millions of years of fossilization; compacting the soil in such a way that it is very fine and provides easy drainage. Combined with the rolling terrain and the optimum maritime climate, this makes for excellent Cognac and eaux-de-vie.

This Cognac is proofed at 40% ABV.
