Description
Martell Blue Swift: A VSOP Expression Finished in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels
Martell Blue Swift is a VSOP expression that reinterprets one of the house’s most recognizable styles. Created from Martell VSOP eaux-de-vie and finished in Kentucky bourbon barrels, this release stands apart thanks to its distinctive maturation process. The finishing stage in American oak brings additional layers of sweetness, spice, and toasted character, giving the spirit a profile that bridges traditional French distillation with the influence of bourbon cask ageing.
This limited edition also reflects the historic relationship between Maison Martell and the United States. In 1783, Martell became the first French house to ship its spirits to America, marking the beginning of a long-standing international presence. Martell Blue Swift highlights that connection by combining French distillation methods with a finishing period in Kentucky bourbon barrels. The result is a spirit that represents both tradition and innovation within the Martell portfolio.
Maison Martell is the oldest of the four major houses in the region, founded in 1715. Over centuries, the brand has developed a reputation for clarity, elegance, and fruit-driven profiles. The Blue Swift name and swift bird symbol reflect the house’s history and global reach, representing movement across continents and cultures.
The base spirit is produced from grapes grown in four well-known terroirs of the region: Borderies, Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, and Fins Bois. Each area contributes a different characteristic to the final blend. Borderies often brings floral and rounded notes, the Champagne crus add structure and length, while Fins Bois contributes fruit and balance.
The eaux-de-vie are aged for a minimum of four years in French oak barrels before being transferred to Kentucky bourbon casks for finishing. This second maturation stage introduces additional aromatic elements. Notes of banana, vanilla, coconut, and light menthol develop alongside the fruit, while toasted oak adds warmth and depth. The result is a rounded and approachable spirit with a distinctive profile that reflects Martell’s willingness to explore new styles beyond traditional boundaries.
Presentation of the decanter
The bottle follows the classic Martell decanter design and is presented in a 700ml format. The color scheme of the label and presentation reflects the French tricolor flag, combining red, white, and blue elements. The swift bird emblem is etched into the glass, creating a subtle embossed effect that highlights the house symbol. The rich amber color of the liquid contrasts with the blue accents of the label, giving the bottle a clean and recognizable appearance.
Note: The Martell Blue Swift VSOP with Glitter Design contains the same liquid as the standard Martell Blue Swift VSOP. The only difference lies in the decorative glitter finish applied to the bottle.
Martell Blue Swift VSOP Serving Suggestions
Martell Blue Swift works particularly well in classic cocktails and can also be enjoyed neat or over ice. One recommended serve is the Sazerac, a cocktail that originated in New Orleans and remains one of the oldest recorded American cocktail recipes.
Ingredients
60ml Martell Blue Swift
5ml sugar syrup
3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
10ml absinthe
Method
Fill a rocks glass with ice, add the absinthe, and top with a little water. Allow the glass to chill. In a separate mixing glass, stir the remaining ingredients with ice. Discard the ice and absinthe from the rocks glass, then strain the cocktail into the chilled glass. Garnish with a thin strip of lemon zest.
Blue Swift also works well in a Mint Julep, where its fruit and oak notes complement fresh mint and crushed ice. Alternatively, it can simply be served neat or over ice to appreciate its rounded character and bourbon cask influence.

Smooth
If you're more of a bourbon or scotch person and you would like to get a cognac, you'll probably enjoy this more than I did. I didn't realize that this was finished in Bourbon casks, it's very obvious off the first sip. I'm kind of over whiskey at this point in life so I really didn't enjoy this all...
Martell Blue Swift
Nose: Plums, figs, cherry, brown sugar, cinnamon, floral, vanilla, oak. Palate: Fig, cherry candy, vanilla, cinnamon, heavy oak. Finish: drying oak lingers. Pretty intense notes and shows the amount of influence a used barrel can have on the final product.
Flavour bomb
Nose... Fresh Parfume / Mint Taste...Mix of fruit One of my favorites
