Description
A natural 3-grape Grande Champagne beauty: Grosperrin Cépages Cognac
Whether you have heard of this Cognac house before or not, they are one of the finest producers in the region - and certainly one of the most unique. The Grosperrin Cépages Grande Champagne Cognac is a fine example of their prowess, and is a blend of grape varieties including Folle Blanche, Colombard and Ugni Blanc. It’s certainly a step in a new direction for this innovative Cognac brand.
Each grape variety gives it a special something: the Colombard grapes gives the Cognac its power, the Folle Blanche its finesse, and Ugni Blanc its perfect structure. It is a VSOP quality Cognac of exceptional quality.
While Grosperrin do not produce Cognac directly, they source the very best from each terroir, with no added color, sugar nor chill filtering. Their savoir-faire lies in their ability to source barrels of eaux-de-vie, age them and create stunning masterpieces at the perfect proof - with this one bottled at 42% ABV.
The Grande Champagne is renowned for producing fine eaux-de-vie, thanks to the chalky soil and sloping gradient. Cognacs produced in the Premier Cru are generally complex, take longer to mature and have an incredible finish. Grosperrin have the ability to find the region’s most hidden gems, and the business is now headed by Guilhem Grosperrin.
Based in the city of Saintes and in the village of Chermignac, the cellars are full of Cognacs from every age and region. Some of them date all the way back to the 1800s!
Presentation of the decanter
Bottled and proofed at 42% ABV, the decanter is a showstopper. Bottled in dark brown glass, the label is black with a detailed illustration of a vine. The bottle is almost gothic, but wonderfully contemporary. It would make a great gift. Grosperrin never adds sugar or caramel coloring to their Cognacs. Yes, for all of them BUT not for this young cognac, which contains a very little sugar (0.7%)
Serving Suggestions
Enjoy this Cognac neat, as it exists in very limited quantity.

Great value
This is fresh and vivacious from the first moment you nose it. As a whisky drinker I have struggled with the concept of terroir, but to me this has all the hallmarks of the premier cru. There’s an astonishing glass-like clarity to this cognac. Orchard fruits abound with apricots, apples, peaches...
About Grosperrin Cognac
The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.
Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
