Description
A Jean Doussoux VSOP Réserve Cognac from the Bons Bois
A Cognac that oozes elegance and class from the first sip to the last - Domaine du Chene Jean Doussoux VSOP Réserve Cognac. Originating from the Bon Bois Region, the world-renowned Jean Doussoux Distillery created the Cognac using only grapes of the Ugni Blanc variety, giving it its fruity, direct taste.
The distillery’s use of Limousin oak barrels during the process also adds immeasurably to the Cognac, developing a deep amber color and spicy notes in the aftertaste.
To be called VSOP, the wine must be aged for a minimum of 4 years, yet this reserve has been sitting in casks for the past 14-18 years, allowing plenty of time to develop flavor, aroma and color.
The Bons Bois cru is certainly earthier than the other parts of the Cognac region, and covers approximately 16,000 hectares. The sandy and earthy soil is typical for its coastal locations, which have eroded from the Massif Central. The vines are often mixed with other crops, such as chestnuts and forests of pine trees.
How to enjoy
To be drunk on its own in its purest form or enjoyed with chocolate desserts or ripe fruits.
About Domaine du Chêne
Located at the heart of the Romanesque Saintonge province is Domaine du Chêne, which has remained a family estate for several generations since Jean-Baptiste Doussoux bought his first still in 1865.
The vineyard now covers 80 hectares growing several different grapes, including rare and old varieties like the Folle Blanche, among other classic varieties such as the Ugni Blanc.
The vineyards themselves are over 80 years old and today produce a range of bespoke products including their "Domaine du Chêne" range and Cognac "Jean Doussoux".
