Description
An Organic VS Cognac from the Grande Champagne cru
An award-winning and vivacious Cognac, the Méry Melrose Single Estate VS Organic Cognac glows with life and dry, fresh flavor. Made in harmony with the natural elements of the Grande Champagne cru, also known as the Premier Cru, it is a fresh expression of everything that is so coveted about this terroir.
Méry Melrose Cognac prides themselves on producing artisanally and organically. This VS Organic Cognac is made using Ugni Blanc, Colombard and Montils grapes in the undulating region of the Grande Champagne. This terrain is known for its chalky soil with a limestone subsoil that means excellent drainage and optimal sun exposure. The presentation of the Melrose VS ties in beautifully with the other Cognacs of their series; the labeling is a tribute to the prehistoric wall paintings and figures found in French caves.
Produced entirely in-house, Méry Melrose harvest their organic certified grapes, double distill with certain barrels receiving their first reduction soon after distillation, age in French barrels and then blend the eaux-de-vie themselves. The barrels are aged in 400 liter Limousin oak casks in their family cellars, using both new and used wood.
It is bottled at 70 and 75 cl, and contains 40% ABV. This Cognac is certified by Ecocert FR BIO 01 and NOP Certified in the USA.
Méry Melrose VS Cognac Awards
Méry Melrose Organic VS Cognac won the Silver Medal in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017.
How to enjoy this VS Organic Cognac
The Méry Melrose Cognac is perfect served with shellfish such as prawn or langoustine. It also goes brilliantly in cocktails such as a Cognac Sour, or Cognac Old Fashioned. It is a wonderful Cognac for a long drink or cocktail, but can equally be enjoyed neat in the sun as it has a dry taste.
The label and presentation of the Méry Melrose VS is a tribute to generations of savoir faire. The distinctive design is influenced by prehistoric paintings that can be found on the walls of caves in France. These markings date back 18,000 years, when animal and man lived in harmony together. Méry Melrose are everything that an organic producer should represent in the 21st century.
The Méry Melrose story
Described as both ‘farmer and artist’, Master Blender Francois and Janis Méry created the Cognac brand after being inspired by their love for each other; the rose represents love for their family and craft. They are organic growers, and viticulturists. Francois is a fourth generation Cognac distiller, and has both tradition and his modern innovation to thank. As a young man, he traveled to Australia to work for an independent biodynamic wine producer, and felt inspired to bring his ideas back to France. The process takes place at the maison from start to finish; from harvesting the organic grapes, to distilling and blending. The ageing process takes place in their family cellars; the Cognac ageing in both old and new Limousin oak barrels of 400 liter capacity.
