Description
Gautier VS Cognac: the Best of Both Worlds
A blend of eaux-de-vie aged a minimum of two years, the Gautier VS Cognac embodies the first aging of Cognac carefully crafted by the Cellar Master of Maison Gautier, Isabelle Couprie. Its harmony is due to the careful blend of Fins Bois and Bons Bois eaux-de-vie that creates a perfectly balanced taste, somewhat unusual in such a young Cognac, combining the best of both crus. The Fins Bois is famous for its heavy soil, producing eaux-de-vie that age quite quickly and express a wonderful aroma of fresh grapes; meanwhile, the coastal location of the Bons Bois gives a rustic, down-to-earth character. Judging by its astounding collection of awards and medals, the quality of this VS expression certainly hasn't gone unnoticed by experts around the world.
Based on the Osme river in the town of Aigre, Gautier Cognac is amongst the oldest Cognac houses. Their casks lay resting in an 18th century water mill, providing a humid microclimate that creates a pronounced flavor. The Gautier family are passionate about the skill of aging; their relationship with the importance of wood goes back to their 17th century ancestors who were forest owners near Tronçais. In 1644, Charles Gautier married Jacquette Brochet, a winemaker's daughter, bringing together the skills and expertise of two families to create Gautier Cognac.
Maison Gautier unites the history of Cognac production with a modern view of the market of today, catering to both professional connoisseurs as well as new Cognac enthusiasts who like to experiment. While the people working at this ancient Cognac house may stick to tradition, they also know how to look to the future.
Presentation of the Bottle
This wonderfully elegant bottle features a curved base slowly tapering into a long, thin neck. The foil, medallion and label are finished in teal and silver, giving the whole package a sleek, premium appearance.
How to Enjoy Gautier VS Cognac
This elegant and well-balanced VS can be enjoyed neat, over ice, with tonic water, or in a cocktail to best reveal its character. Gautier’s recommended serve is to mix 50ml Gautier VS Cognac with 20ml Triple Sec, 20ml lemon juice and 5ml sugar syrup. Shake it all up with ice until cold and strain into an old-fashioned glass full of cubed ice with a sugar rim. Garnish with a lemon zest.

A Solid VS
This is priced great for the quality. Lots of fruit on the nose (apple, honeydew, candied orange) and that classic Fin Bois grape juice/skin flavor. There are very subtle floral notes in this VS, but for the most part it's focused on the fruits and honey/vanilla type flavors. It's a really great example...
