The product of a creative collaboration with Le Garage Bar in Cognac, the Comandon X Le Garage Cognac is a small-batch single distillery offering that combines the cool aesthetics of the legendary Le Garage Bar with the quality of Comandon Cognac. Bar owner Franck Bernier has certainly chosen well: this un-chill filtered VS expression is a versatile expression that should impress any Cognac enthusiast. This is, however, a limited edition of only 500 bottles - so best be quick if you want to get one!
The House of Comandon is an old agricultural distillery that has been making eaux-de-vie for nearly two centuries. Combining traditional and historical elegance with a modern approach to marketing, this is a quirky producer that always surprises and delights with their releases.
Wide and sturdy, the Comandon X Le Garage Cognac bottle has a ‘craft’ feel to it, heightened by the simple label and the wooden stopper sealed with paper. The white-on-black label (so very rock n’ roll!) features an individual bottle number as well as the batch number.
This easygoing and well-crafted VS Cognac is ideal to drink on its own, or used in mixed drinks and aperitifs. Le Garage Bar uses it is a range of cocktails, where they combine it with a range of eclectic flavors like strawberry, lemon, pimento and pink pepper - we think this is a great Cognac to get experimenting with!
Comandon is an independent Cognac house that continue to control all of their production in-house. Their philosophy lies in uniting traditional elegance and two centuries of savoir-faire with modernity and pushing the boundaries, which can be seen in their bespoke branding campaigns and unique internet presence. Think La Dolce Vita meets Armani.
With an extremely forward-thinking marketing agenda and a particularly hands-on approach when it comes to the music and entertainment industry, Comandon have carved themselves an interesting space for a niche approach to the Cognac business.
They do an exceptional job of producing small, artisanal batches that offer rare and limited glimpses into one particular terroir, or one exceptional harvest, whether the eaux-de-vie are younger or older. For this reason, they defy tradition in the Cognac world, who believe that “older is better” and producing the same Cognac year in, year out is the end objective. Comandon instead work in tandem with nature, initiating unique collaborations for their single cask collection, and never fearing experimentation.
With a history dating back around 200 years, the Cognac house continue to produce excellent Cognac and receive top-notch awards.
