Description
H3: Prunier Millésime Cognac from 1981 Grande Champagne
The Vintage Cognac has been a long-favored art form within the Charente region for generations. The art of selecting eaux-de-vie straight from the barrel is well-practiced at this Cognac house, particularly with the Prunier Vintage 1981 Grande Champagne Cognac. A fine expression of the Premier Cru, it takes us back to the fresh and fruity flavors of the 1981 harvest. Bottled in October 2015 at natural cask strength, it has been aged in oak barrels for over three decades. It is available in a limited quantity - 570 bottles to be precise. This is Cognac making at its purest; giving us a mere glimpse into a time gone by, all by the power of our senses.
What makes the Grande Champagne such a coveted terroir in the Cognac region? It’s largely thanks to geological activity that took place here millions of years ago. 85 million years, to be precise. The area made up the corner of the Atlantic seabed, and so millions of fossils were deposited in its soil. This is the reason for its chalky composition and unique maritime climate. It is this long maturation period and fine soil that makes for a complex, Grande Champagne vintage such as the Prunier 1981 Vintage.
How to enjoy the Prunier Millésime 1981
A Vintage Cognac should be enjoyed neat and savored with every drop.
The Prunier Vintage 1981 Bottle
The Prunier Vintage Cognacs are all bottled in classic decanters with old-fashioned labeling, however, this Prunier Vintage 1981 is finished with a raspberry colored wax and seal. Bottled at 42.1% ABV.
The savoir-faire of Prunier
The Prunier family have in fact been blending and perfecting their Cognac expertise since 1701. The Maison itself is located in the middle of the town of Cognac, and considering their incredible amount of fine Vintage Cognacs, their Paradise cellar is something to behold. It is said that the cellar itself benefits from the underground river that flows beneath, hence the remarkable taste of each Cognac.
