Description
Prunier 1973 Vintage Grande Champagne Cognac
The Prunier 1973 Vintage Grande Champagne Cognac is a single harvest Premier Cru delight, representing a fine growing season. Bottled in 2017 at 50.2% ABV, only 455 bottles were produced of this expression, making it a rather limited edition. Cognac vintages are a way of travelling back in time - because you certainly can't rush the creation of a masterpiece such as this. It is a great opportunity to own a snapshot of history, or as a gifting opportunity for someone with a 1973 birthday or anniversary.
Unlike larger Cognac houses, Maison Prunier do not grow their own grapes; they specialize in buying eaux-de-vie directly from growers and distillers. This way they can select the most exceptional and unusual vintages to age in their humid cellars by the river Charente. Today the company is run by the Burnez family, thanks to Jean Burnez who took over when his aunt’s husband Alphonse Prunier passed away without any descendants. Under the watchful eye of Jean’s children, we hope to see many more exceptional vintages from this grand Cognac house for years to come.
Presentation of the Bottle
This vintage Cognac is presented in a traditional wax-sealed bottle and wooden gift box. The intricate, classic label neatly identifies the individual bottle number.
The bottles used for Prunier vintages have been inspired by a hand-blown bottle used in the 19th Century by the family of Prunier’s manager Claude Burnez. The original bottle contained air bubbles in the glass, which are emulated today by manually injecting air into the glass. It may be a time-consuming process, but the result is truly stunning.
How to Enjoy Prunier 1973 Vintage Grande Champagne Cognac
Created with extraordinary care, this vintage Cognac deserves your full attention. Serve neat in tulip glasses at room temperature, letting it rest for 30 seconds before taking the first sip - you could also soften this cask-strength Cognac with a splash of water if you wish. Either way, it’s perfect as an after-dinner drink or enjoyed with rich desserts.
