Description
Pierre Ferrand 1914 Millésime Cognac: the Women’s Vintage
The oldest expression in the Collection Privée of Pierre Ferrand, the Pierre Ferrand 1914 Vintage Millésime Cognac dates back to the early days of WWI. During the winter of 1914, with their husbands fighting at the front, a group of women in Grande Champagne - for the first time in history - gathered to distil the Ugni Blanc wine of the summer’s harvest. This eaux-de-vie was subsequently aged in Limousin oak casks before being transferred to dame-jeannes to allow the Cognac to keep its vital character. Later considered the finest vintage of the 20th century, it was named the ‘Millésime des Femmes’ (The Women’s Vintage). Pierre Ferrand here presents the last barrel of this precious nectar distilled over a century ago in a run of only 202 bottles. Truly a historical Cognac to own, this release also delivers on flavor: it received a 100/100 rating in the Gilbert & Gaillard guide in December 2009.
Maison Ferrand has made a name for itself thanks to its exclusive use of Premier Cru terroir wines, produced in the golden triangle of the Grande Champagne - the source of some of the highest quality eaux-de-vie the Cognac region has to offer. Pierre Ferrand in its current form was founded in 1989 when Alexandre Gabriel purchased the family firm and quickly began to improve its profile. For the Ferrand family, now on their fifth generation of Cellar Master, blending is an art form and each expression stands as a masterpiece in its own right.
Presentation of the Bottle
The sturdy decanter is both elegant and timeless, with its heavy glass base, tasteful labelling and cork stopper. The rich mahogany tones of the liquid inside the bottle are perfectly matched by a polished wooden presentation case, which also features a red wax seal on the front displaying the 1914 vintage.
How to Enjoy Pierre Ferrand 1914 Vintage Millésime Cognac
The perfect digestif, this is a wonderful vintage Cognac to enjoy in good company, on special occasions, and when you have plenty of time to savor the moment. Pour into tulip glasses and wait a few moments to allow the aromas to fully open up.
