Pasquet Lot 62 Cask 1 Cognac: History in a Bottle

The first of two casks of the Lot 62, the Pasquet Lot 62 Cask 1 Cognac has been made with Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie from a single harvest. According to traditional methods, the House of Pasquet uses only French Limousin oak for their casks, lending rich tannins and color to the floral eaux-de-vie over time. With a relatively small harvest, the 1962 vintage was saved by a very warm September following some cool growing conditions. This year produced outstanding fruity and supple wines, which in turn resulted in eaux-de-vie that have matured with great elegance. Coming in at just over 40%, the Lot 62 Cask 1 is a Cognac that deserves time and attention in the glass.

The history of Pasquet Cognac begins in 1730 with the Serillet family managing vineyards in the Grande Champagne region. The property was passed down from generation to generation and eventually being handed to the Pasquet family in 1924 after Léonie Pasquet married into the family. After this, Jean-Luc Pasquet inherited the property in 1970 from his uncle and decided to create the Cognac Jean-Luc Pasquet brand. With stock inherited from previous generations and his own bottling line, Jean-Luc was able to create a staggering range of releases from the very start, from VSOP expressions all the way up to an 80-year-old bottling.

For over two decades, Jean-Luc and his wife Marie-Françoise cultivated their vines in a conventional manner, until poor health hit one of their plots. This prompted an interest in organic farming and after some promising experiments, the converted the whole vineyard a year later and obtained the Organic Agriculture label in 1998. Today, all Pasquet Cognac is made with all-organic grapes, grown without the use of pesticides, and naturally fermented without any artificial additives. The family control all aspects of production from start to finish, even bottling the Cognac on-site. Modernity and tradition go hand in hand on this estate, making it one to watch for the future.

Presentation of the Bottle

The tall, straight bottle has a classic look that perfectly reflects this quality of its contents. Topped with gold foil and featuring a simple label, this is a package that lets the liquid speak for itself. With its subdued colors and ‘hand-written’ font on the label, it has a timeless appeal that is sure to give it pride of place in any Cognac collection.

Serving Suggestion

This rare vintage is best enjoyed neat at room temperature. Pour into a tulip glass and allow the Cognac to rest for a moment before taking a sip; this will allow the most complex aromas to develop for a fuller tasting experience. For an added element of luxury, enjoy alongside a hot espresso or a cigar after dinner.

About Pasquet Cognac

Certified organic Cognac house Pasquet perfectly strikes the balance between the warmth of family tradition and innovative savoir-faire. In order to revive a plot of vines during the 1990s, the Pasquet family reached deep into their ancestral history to rediscover its organic farming methods. It was here that they found a beautiful equilibrium not only in the ecosystem of their vines, but also in the Cognacs themselves. Since being awarded ‘Agriculture Biologique’ status in 1998, they haven’t looked back, continuing to craft small-batch Cognacs that epitomize natural beauty and balance. With versatile ranges such as ‘L’Organic’ and ‘Esprit de la Famille,’ the Pasquet family ensures that every step of production respects the environment, resulting in a very special collection of Cognacs.
