Description

A Vintage Grande Champagne Cognac from 2009 aged in La Rochelle

Each year, a Vintage barrel is opened and 100 bottles of the finest ‘10 Years’ Cognac is produced. The Normandin Mercier 10 Years Grande Champagne 2009 Cognac is a pleasure to own and savor. Although, in Cognac years, 2009 is relatively young - this Vintage Cognac shows great finesse and wisdom beyond its years.

Produced solely using grapes from the Grande Champagne cru, Normandin Mercier Cognac select the finest eaux-de-vie to then mature them in their maritime-tinged cellars near La Rochelle in 350-liter barrels. The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean to this cru gives roundness and distinct aroma that can be found nowhere else.

Aged for a decade, the color changes from golden yellow to dark brown, and the bouquet develops in such a way that can only be identified as a Cognac from the prestigious ‘Premier Cru’. All of their Cognacs are produced with their natural hue, non-chill filtering and respect for manual labor.

The natural humidity of the ‘chais’ also plays a role. This influences the rate of evaporation, which is one of the determining factors of aging. The alcoholic vapors encourage the growth of a microscopic mushroom known as torula compniacensis, that blackens the walls of the cellar. As a result, Cognacs such as the 10 Years 2009 are soft and balanced.

Founded in 1872, the five generations of savoir-faire at Normandin Mercier are now practised by Edouard Normandin. By selecting the very finest eaux-de-vie from the Grande and Petite Champagne, he continues what his ancestor, Jules Normandin, established all those years ago near La Rochelle.

Presentation of the bottle

We adore the Normandin Mercier decanters. This delicate 50cl decanter is in a traditional tasting bottle, with a wooden stopper. Overproof at 44,2% ABV, it’s no wonder they are proud of this very rare Cognac.

Serving Suggestions

For best results, enjoy this Cognac neat and at room temperature and allow the beauty of a vintage year to unfold across your palate.
