Description

Montleau “Autour de 1942” Vintage Cognac

A Cognac with an enticing tale to tell, it’s a miracle that the Montleau “Autour de 1942” Vintage Cognac is even in existence. Distilled in 1942, when the German military took occupancy in France, it was crafted during a time where it was forbidden to make Cognac. Whilst barrels were confiscated to be sent to Germany, this creation was kept in secrecy, defying the ban on distillation. During the night, with nothing but candlelight, the Cognac was silently developed in very small quantities. To remain a mystery, it was then buried for several years to avoid capture. Since then, the Montleau family has continued its legacy by aging it in single oak barrels. Due to the rarity of its existence, “Autour de 1942” reveals strong vitality and character with a unique richness of aromas that can not be recreated. It is this unreplicable charm that makes it the perfect gift to any Cognac collector.

Produced by a house with origins dating back more than 400 years ago, the Montleau family is linked to royal descendants. With a rich sense of history and prestigious roots, it is clear to see how they came to own such a secret creation. Honoring tradition with its growing, aging and blending, this is a house renowned for producing rare and robust blends. Showcasing just how true that tradition is, this blend is a credit to the house. With a story as enchanting as its palate, it’s a wonderful showcase of what the Montleau house is renowned for.

Presentation of the bottle

Typical of the Montleau house design, this Cognac is stamped with simplicity. A clean white label is complimented with royal blue detailing. This attention to detail conveys the rich sense of heritage and hardship beneath the surface. A testament to its vintage label, the historic charm carefully alludes to the wonderful story behind its creation. Finished in a simple wooden presentation box, it’s a fine art down to the final detail. Would make a wonderful gift to anyone that appreciates a historic Cognac.

How to enjoy

A Cognac as rare and as risky as this must be enjoyed neat to truly savor its brilliance. Save for a special occasion and sip slowly.
