Description

Meukow Vintage Grande Champagne 1964 Cognac: a Taste of the Past

The result of a wonderful harvest from the Premier Cru of Cognac, the Meukow Vintage Grande Champagne 1964 Cognac stands as a classic example of mid-century elegance. This year is widely regarded as one of the great vintages of the decade, with the season showing hot and dry growing conditions that produced ripe, full-bodied wines. The resulting eaux-de-vie were left to mature for decades in French oak before being transferred to demijohns. The legal requirements to receive a vintage status are relatively strict and difficult to achieve for Cognac producers: none of the Cognac stored inside the demijohns can be touched, tasted or removed until the seal is broken by a sworn representative before being bottled.

Meukow was founded by two brothers from Silesia, August-Christophe and Gustav Meukow, and is today one of the few Russian Cognac brands in the Charente region. Initially sent to source Cognac for Tsar Alexander II in 1850, the brothers travelled back and forth for years in their search for the most prestigious casks. Seeing an opportunity to start up business for themselves, in 1862 they decided to remain in France and opened their distillery.

The company grew rapidly, managed under the influence of prestigious shareholders like Henri Bouraud, the Mayor of Cognac from 1849 to 1869. Today, Meukow Cognac is distributed in over 80 countries around the world. Cellar Master Anne Sarteaux oversees all production of Meukow Cognac, and with her distinctive style and attention to detail, she carries on traditions that have been passed down since the house was founded.

Presentation of the Bottle

Slender and sleek, the bottle design for this vintage is as classic as the Cognac it houses. The gold wax, understated vintage statement and elegant label embody the quality that is contained inside, allowing the liquid to speak for itself. Such a timeless design will never fail to draw the eye.

How to Enjoy Meukow Vintage Grande Champagne 1964 Cognac

The multifaceted flavors of this single vintage expression are best appreciated in a classic tulip glass. To let the aromas develop fully, leave the spirit to rest in the glass for 30 seconds before imbibing.

About Meukow Cognac

As the name suggests, Cognac Meukow is one of the few Russian Cognac brands in the Charente region. In 1862 two brothers were sent over to France to supply the Tsar with Cognac and decided to start their own Cognac distillery.

The brand has become known as the “jaguar liquor”, or the “panther liquor”, thanks to its distinctive bottle design. The big cat in question is in fact a puma, and today, with its famous logo, ranks among the most well-known Cognac brands in the world. Its qualities are strength, elegance, sensuality and exotism, the character traits of the puma.

The distillery is housed in Matha in the Charente Maritime, and are particularly celebrated for their VS Cognac, Vanilla Cognac liqueur and 90-Proof Liquor among many others.
