Description

Single-Cru Grande Champagne Vintage from Maxime Trijol

Family values are integral to every process at the Maxime Trijol vineyards, craftsmanship and knowledge have been passed down through 6 generations in order to produce some of the finest Cognacs in the prestigious Grande Champagne region. The 1988 Grande Champagne Cognac is a prime example of the passion and patience required to create something simply magical.

Located in the heart of the Cognac, only a few miles from Cognac itself, the vineyard spreads across the premier crus of Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, growing almost exclusively Ugni Blanc grapes. This particular vintage was an excellent year for the harvest, which took place at the end of summer, producing potent and powerful grapes for the harvest, rich in flavors ready to be transformed into refined eaux-de-vie.

When harvested, the Trijol family begin work immediately, pressing the fruit just after it is picked and starting the fermentation process as soon as possible. These two steps are crucial according to Trijol family values, and are highly influential in creating the high quality eaux-de-vie used in their Cognac production.

Everything is done in-house, from harvesting to distilling and bottling, meaning complete control over the production process and the assurance of high quality of these artisanal creations.

The family are consistently trying to find the right balance between tradition and modern techniques, in order to remain both innovative and timeless. This particular vintage is an intense and exquisite harmony between floral, fruity and spicy notes.

At first the nose is hit by the sweet notes of plum jelly, enhanced by fresh vanilla seed and delicately perfumed by cinnamon. The palate is round with oak wood being very present, a gentle reminder of the aging process in Limousin oak barrels.

Upon tasting there is a lightly floral element of rancio. A creamy attack with an ample and round personality.

How to Enjoy

Serve neat at the end of a meal as a delightful digestif, best enjoyed at around 70°F.

Presentation of the Bottle

A simple, timeless design for those lovers of classic elegance, the shape of the bottle is relatively modern, yet another example of the Trijol family’s quest to blend tradition with innovation. The bottle proudly displays the Trijol coat of arms, representing family values: the lion is looking backward, a subtle nod to the Trijol’s appreciation of legacy and tradition.

The swords represent the fight against the curveballs that nature might throw, whilst the crown is a symbol of power and protection, protecting the vineyards and representing the power that comes with 6 generations of savoir-faire.
