Description
Mauxion Grande Champagne Lot 38: a Piece of Premier Cru History
These bottles are delivered in a luminous bottle carafe.
This outstanding Cognac predates World War II and has been sourced from the chalky hillsides of Grande Champagne - also known as the Premier Cru. Mauxion Selection originally found the Mauxion Grande Champagne Lot 38 in the possession of a small independent Cognac manufacturer. This single batch was distilled in 1938 and matured for over 50 years in a Limousin oak cask, before being stored in 30 litre Dame Jeanne bottles in a dry cellar until bottling in March 2016. In order to preserve its most delicate aromas, it has not been chill-filtered and is presented at a cask strength of 42%.
The origin of the Mauxion family goes back to 1575 when Pierre Mauxion was born in the village of Houlette, still home to the Mauxion family after thirteen generations. Antoine Mauxion was the first of the family to produce eaux-de-vie, back in 1743, and since then ten generations have followed in his traditions of caring for the vineyard, making wine and distilling in a traditional copper pot still.
Uniquely, Mauxion Selection offers a range of single crus in different sizes, including Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. To preserve their flavor fully, they are bottled at cask strength and without any blending and the long maturation these Cognacs go through allow them to develop exceptional complexity and depth.
Presentation of the Bottle
The exceptional craftsmanship does not end with the liquid - the bottle is simply as unique as the contents. Presented in a round bottle with a bauble-shaped glass stopper, this is certainly a conversation piece. A metal plaque on a gold cord carries the credentials of the brand, and a simple wooden presentation box completes the package. All Mauxion bottles are numbered and presented with a certificate from the producer stating the origin of the Cognac.
How to Enjoy
This outstanding vintage Cognac is one for the tulip glass. Mauxion has chosen to bottle it at cask strength, allowing the drinker to make a choice between drinking it neat or adding a dash of water to lower the alcohol percentage.
