Description

A 1990 Millésime Cognac from the Petite Champagne

When we talk about Lheraud Cognac, it’s pretty certain we’re in the realm of Cognac royalty. The Lheraud Vintage 1990 Petite Champagne Cognac is crafted with Ugni Blanc grapes, and as the name suggests, this is a vintage Cognac from the Petite Champagne terroir, which is renowned for exceptional Cognacs. The ethos of Lhéraud Cognac is both traditional and unique.

The owners, Andrée and Guy, are committed to their trade, creating Cognacs with both passion and skill, and working hard to introduce their quality wares to countries around the world. It's this very reason that the range of vintage Cognacs from Lheraud is becoming highly sought after in all four corners of the globe.

This 1990 Millésime Cognac is certainly no exception and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. It is a fine example of craftsmanship.

The Petite Champagne has chalky soil that is more compact than the Grande Champagne cru, but still produces exceptional Cognacs with a lengthy finish. Distillation takes place in two traditional alembic stills that were built at Lheraud at the beginning of the 20th century.

As Cognac connaisseur and writer, Nicolas Faith once said: "There is only a handful of single-vineyard cognacs worthy of the name – one of which is the branch of Guy Lheraud.”

Lheraud Vintage 1990 Bottle

You only need to look at the packaging to realize that this vintage Cognac is a testament to the passage of time and its importance in the Cognac maturing process.

The label is personally signed and arrives in a striking black decanter with a black wax seal. The seal is meant to represent the knight known as the Chevalier de la Croix Maron. The legend is that he murdered his adulterous wife and her lover, and that very night, he dreamt that he would burn twice in hell. He then ordered his workers to twice distill the wine instead of once - the result was so great, that others began to emulate his work. Today, all their Cognac is distilled twice.

The labels are then ironed on to the bottles and the wax made on a nearby stove.

Lhéraud Cognac is the definition of handmade. It is lovingly wrapped in an aged muslin cloth, and boxed in a gorgeous black leather box embossed in silver. The bottle is carefully laid down in straw-colored raffia. Also included is a handwritten letter from the Cellar Master himself, detailing the finest intricacies of this Cognac.

How to enjoy

At 48% ABV, it offers so many ways in which to be enjoyed—neat, of course. But such is its strength of character it’s equally divine over ice, with a strong coffee, or paired with a favorite cigar.

About Lheraud Cognac

The family Lheraud have been involved in winemaking and cognac production for hundreds of years, but it was only in 1970 that exportation and promotion really began in earnest. Now producing not only cognac, but Pineau des Charentes and Armagnac as well, Lheraud exports its wares worldwide – and continues to expand into more countries on a yearly basis. Today’s owners – Andrée and Guy Lheraud – concentrate on producing Cognac Lheraud strictly on a traditional basis, and continue to work tirelessly to introduce their products to more countries and communities throughout the world.
