Description
A 1988 Grande Champagne Vintage Cognac de Collection by Grosperrin
This Cognac comes from the sister-in-law of a small winemaker turned trader, in the passion was his stock, more than the vine itself, and who liked to buy and resell lots of Cognacs. The Grosperrin 1988 Grande Champagne Vintage Cognac is part of the Cognac de Collection from this highly coveted house. An old Cognac that pays careful attention to the nuances of the Grande Champagne cru. Famous for producing the finest Cognacs in the region, it largely has millions of years of fossilization to thank for its composition. The high chalk content and limestone subsoil make for a very fine eaux-de-vie, that take longer to mature but develop in the most incredible way. The complexity of a Grande Champagne Vintage cannot be underestimated.
Cognacs from the Grosperrin house are never made with caramel and added sugar, and are aged in the original casks where possible. Proofed at 48.8% ABV, and arriving in a tall and simple Cognac decanter. It also arrives in a wooden presentation sleeve.
About Grosperrin Cognac
The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.
Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
