Description

An Iconic Vintage from an Iconic Terroir: Godet Single Year Grande Champagne 1990

Many say the Master Blender's role is vital in creating a charismatic Cognac. But with Godet "Single Year" Cognac, the blender's role is reduced, allowing nature to take its course and allow the Cognac's full expression to come to fruition alone.

Carefully nurtured to maturity in the unique cellars of the La Rochelle estate, this particular vintage is made exclusively from one single cru, harvested in one Single Year. A superb and special single vintage for only the most discerning drinkers and Cognac connoisseurs. This particular example is a Godet Grande Champagne from 1990. A snapshot of a very fine harvest in the Premier Cru, and served to you as pure sensory sophistication.

Godet's range of Vintage Cognacs must be one of the largest in the entire region, with a collection spanning 1814 to the present day. Their Grande Champagne 1990 Millésime Cognac is a single year, single cru Cognac that recounts the history of this Cognac house and their adventures.

Why is the Grande Champagne so highly coveted among Cognac fans? Well, it is considered to be the most prestigious of all the terroirs. The unique chalky soil formed over millions of years of fossilization, combined with the unique maritime climate and perfect exposure to the sun, makes for fantastic grape growth.

What makes Godet stand out on the Cognac market is their La Rochelle location, the unique, salty and humid environment works magic on the eaux-de-vie during the aging process.

Each individual bottle is always one single harvest from one single vineyard, meaning only one terroir and one moment in time. Left to mature in only the highest quality French oak casks, the Cognac is left to age by the Atlantic coast. Each bottle is individual and selected by Cellar Masters on demand.

Ran by the 15th generation of a Cognac dynasty; Jean Edouard, Maxime and Cyril Godet have taken the heritage, history and craftsmanship of their ancestors before them and ran with it, elevating the estate by creating a legendary and luxurious brand with 500 years of savoir-faire under their belt.

The Godet Coat of Arms was bestowed upon the family by King Louis XIV, the three glasses is a symbol of not only the fact they are kings of their craft, that Cognac is in their blood, but equally that the family have had a huge influence on Cognac's popularity both in the past, and in the present. This important history has been captured throughout time in Godet’s range of single vintages.

History remains an essential part of the estate's business model, privileging the traditional grape of yesteryear, "Folle Blanche" a somewhat forgotten grape that has, for the most part, been replaced by Ugni Blanc. The revival of this grape in their eaux-de-vie is just one of many examples of Godet embracing the future while preserving the past.

Presentation of the bottle

Own a little piece of Godet's history, and gift this Vintage Cognac to somebody born in 1990. It comes in a gorgeous wooden presentation box, and will make a wonderful momentum. Each lot is unique and bottled on demand, so only limited numbers are available.

About Godet Cognac

The house of Godet has been run by the family for 14 generations. It is a perfect example of a cognac house that deeply believes in the tradition of this spirit and its origins. At the same time, Godet manages to move with modern times, having recently created a cognac from a grape that is almost extinct in the cognac industry: Folle Blache. This cognac is called "Antarctica Godet" and was inspired by a 2-month sailing trip to the South Pole.
