Description
A Fins Bois Cognac from the start of the Seventies: Godet Single Year Vintage 1970
Many say the Master Blender's role is vital in creating a charismatic Cognac. But with Godet "Single Year" Cognac, the blender's role is reduced, allowing nature to take its course and allow the Cognac's full expression to come to fruition alone.
Carefully nurtured to maturity in the unique cellars of the La Rochelle estate, this particular vintage is made exclusively from one single cru, harvested in one Single Year. A superb and special single vintage for only the most discerning drinkers and Cognac connoisseurs. This particular example is a Godet Fins Bois 1970 Vintage. A snapshot on the eve of the 1970s, and served to you as pure sensory sophistication.
Godet's range of Vintage Cognacs must be one of the largest in the entire region, with a collection spanning 1814 to the present day. Their Fins Bois 1970 Millésime Cognac is a single year, single cru Cognac that recounts the history of this Cognac house and their adventures.
The Fins Bois is the largest of the terroirs, and produces full-bodied, complex Cognacs with plenty of fruity and floral flavor.
What makes Godet stand out on the Cognac market is their La Rochelle location, the unique, salty and humid environment works magic on the eaux-de-vie during the aging process.
Each individual bottle is always one single harvest from one single vineyard, meaning only one terroir and one moment in time. Left to mature in only the highest quality French oak casks, the Cognac is left to age by the Atlantic coast. Each bottle is individual and selected by Cellar Masters on demand.
Ran by the 15th generation of a Cognac dynasty; Jean Edouard, Maxime and Cyril Godet have taken the heritage, history and craftsmanship of their ancestors before them and ran with it, elevating the estate by creating a legendary and luxurious brand with 500 years of savoir-faire under their belt.
The Godet Coat of Arms was bestowed upon the family by King Louis XIV, the three glasses is a symbol of not only the fact they are kings of their craft, that Cognac is in their blood, but equally that the family have had a huge influence on Cognac's popularity both in the past, and in the present. This important history has been captured throughout time in Godet’s range of single vintages.
History remains an essential part of the estate's business model, privileging the traditional grape of yesteryear, "Folle Blanche" a somewhat forgotten grape that has, for the most part, been replaced by Ugni Blanc. The revival of this grape in their eaux-de-vie is just one of many examples of Godet embracing the future while preserving the past.

A very good year
A wonderful bouquet, hat opens up as the cognac sits in the glass and relaxes. A lot of rancio that is expected of a Cognac of this age. Each sip allowed more lovely tastes to come through, with aged fruits such as raisin and dried plums. Allowing the cognac to linger on the tongue allows more subtle...
Godet Fins Bois 1970
Nose: Oh wow this smells incredibly fruity. This is all sorts of oranges in all forms and drippy oozy yellow peaches. The fruit is not candied or dried but more stewed. I envision a pot with fresh cut oranges and peaches stewing away on a low fire. There is an earthiness underneath that makes the...
About Godet Cognac
The house of Godet has been run by the family for 14 generations. It is a perfect example of a cognac house that deeply believes in the tradition of this spirit and its origins. At the same time, Godet manages to move with modern times, having recently created a cognac from a grape that is almost extinct in the cognac industry: Folle Blache. This cognac is called "Antarctica Godet" and was inspired by a 2-month sailing trip to the South Pole.
