Eye: Brilliant mahogany.

Nose: Fresh minerals and a sprinkling of pepper initially disguise the age of this Cognac. Slowly, rich spices and rancio emerge.

Palate: Full-bodied, rich and positively melting in the mouth, with deep fruit and wood notes. The tannins and rancio continue on in a seemingly neverending finish.

Description

Dupuy Vintage 1940 Tentation Cognac

One of only two bottles in the world, the Dupuy Vintage 1940 Tentation Cognac was first unveiled at the Hong Kong Wine & Spirits Fair in 2011. This unblended vintage boasts a fresh, mineral smell and a light peppery note, melting on the palate with a combination of rancio and well-developed tannins. Kept safe in a dark cellar for decades, this taste of the past is an experience that few will enjoy - but those who do are unlikely to ever forget it.

Auguste Dupuy created Cognac Dupuy in 1852, succeeded by his son Edmond on his death in 1895. Only ten years later, two Norwegians - Peter Rustad and Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen - took over the house but decided to keep the name. At the same time, they created their own Cognac brand for the Scandinavian market, which is better known as Bache-Gabrielsen Cognac.

Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen’s great-grandson Hervé runs the company today and is responsible for putting Dupuy Cognac back on the map. Cellar Master Jean-Philippe Bergier lends his skill and innovation to the mix, and together they consistently produce eaux-de-vie in the traditional manner of the previous centuries with a focus on quality and design. The Bache-Gabrielsen family are sole owners of the company, conveniently housed in a stunning mansion in the heart of Cognac. While keeping an eye on tradition, as an economist, Hervé also knows the importance of staying relevant in an ever-changing world, bringing a modern look to his products and reaching out to new markets around the world.

Presentation of the Bottle

Intended to mimic old brokers’ flasks, the bottle design is simple but striking. The details of the deep punt and angled neck perfectly complement the simple cork stopper and bold vintage statement on the front of the bottle. For security, the cork is sealed with a golden wire cage and a certificate of authenticity.

How to Enjoy Dupuy Vintage 1940 Tentation Cognac

The perfect digestif, this is a wonderful vintage Cognac to enjoy in good company, on special occasions, and when you have plenty of time to savor the moment. Pour into tulip glasses and wait a few moments to allow the aromas to fully open up.
