Description
A Delamain Vintage Cognac from the Grande Champagne harvest of 1988
Described as a “vintage made for celebrations”, this Cognac is an exclusive bottle of Grande Champagne prowess. Delamain Vintage 1988 Grande Champagne Cognac is a single cask bottle, presented in a gorgeous wooden box. A Delamain Cognac is typically released in very limited quantity, and they were the first Cognac house to release Vintage Cognacs, selecting young Cognac from various estates in the Premier Cru to age in Limousin oak for a minimum of 30 years and was bottled in 2018.
The family-run Maison is one of the oldest producers, as it was founded in 1762. During the sixties, the production of ‘single-year’ Cognacs was forbidden. Delamain continued to produce them, and eventually released beauties such as the 1988 Grande Champagne Vintage.
Delamain produces no VS or VSOP Cognac, and they reduce bottle strength down to 40% ABV with ‘faible’ Cognacs, which are older and low strength, as opposed to water. The process takes place in Jarnac, close to the town of Cognac in the Charente. Distillation takes place gradually, and eaux-de-vie are left to sleep in old oak barrels for decades.
Delamain selected only the finest of the ‘Premier Cru’ terroir, thanks to the unique make-up of its soil that produce the best Cognacs in the region. The chalky soil mixed with sun-drenched hills and a maritime climate makes for floral, light and complex eaux-de-vie.
