Description

Delamain Vintage 1965 Collection Apogée Cognac: Half a Century in Waiting

This exceptionally old Cognac originates from vines harvested in 1965 in the tiny Grande Champagne hamlet of Verrières. The Delamain Vintage 1965 Collection Apogée Cognac has been patiently maturing in Delamain’s cellars since March of 1966 until it was bottled in 2015.

The house of Delamain is dedicated to producing only limited vintages, including this one which was hand-selected by their former Director, Jean Delamain. It has been aged in a seasoned 350L oak cask made with French oak from the Limousin forest, where the closely-packed fibres of the wood limit the influx of tannins. In turn, this helps to preserve the fruity flavours and more subtle nuances of the Cognac, but it also requires an extended maturation process. This extraordinary cask remained in the same corner of the founder’s cellar, where it has seen decades come and go. Places between a damp wall and a door, it has benefitted from changes in temperature and airflow year after year, creating a Cognac with unrivalled complexity.

After maturing for 50 years in wood, this Cognac was transferred to a 30L Dame-Jeanne to preserve its unique flavours and aromas. To reduce their Cognac to bottle strength, Delamain utilize the faibles - older, lower-strength Cognacs - rather than water, ensuring that nothing dilutes the flavor which time has created.

Delamain’s unrivalled passion for creating vintage Cognac has been passed down from generation to generation since 1759, the year when James Delamain left Ireland to settle in Jarnac as a Cognac merchant. His grandson Henri founded Maison Delamain in 1824, and today the 9th generation of the family still runs the company - with a total of fifteen employees. Known for keeping to extremely old-fashioned production methods, they are also the only Cognac producer which exclusively releases Cognac aged XO or older. At half a century old, this release is certainly no exception to the rule.

Presentation of the Bottle

The Delamain Vintage 1965 Collection Apogée Cognac comes in a stylish, tall bottle with a deep punt, slim neck and gold foil. Each bottle features a label with detailed information about the release and an individual bottle number. The package is completed by a wooden presentation box decorated with Delamain’s signature blue coloring and a golden plaque.

How to Enjoy Delamain Vintage 1965 Collection Apogée Cognac

The perfect digestif, this is a wonderful vintage Cognac to enjoy in good company, on special occasions, and when you have plenty of time to savor the moment. Pour into a tulip glass and wait a few moments to allow the aromas to fully open up.

About Delamain Cognac

With an incredibly old family tradition, Delamain Cognac (et Cie) makes for an exciting Cognac house with roots dating back to the early 1600s! The family tree couldn't be more complicated, and yet the Delamain brand has managed to survive since its creation in 1762. This is a Cognac house that is unapologetic when it comes to quality, selecting only the very best from its suppliers in order to create its own exclusive Grande Champagne products. With the British aristocracy having influenced the Delamains for generations, their Cognacs such as Delamain Le Voyage, Tres Venerable, and the Grande Champagne Vesper - are authentically catered for blue blood!
