Description

A Spot of Summer Sunshine: Claude Thorin Grande Champagne Vintage 2004 Cognac

Showing a bright, lively side of the Premier Cru, this is a stellar vintage Cognac made with 100% Folle Blanche grapes grown on the sunny hills of the Grande Champagne region. The Claude Thorin Grande Champagne Vintage 2004 Cognac has been aged for over 11 years in oak barrels in the cellars at Maison Claude Thorin. To preserve all its characteristics, it has been aged exclusively in red oak barrels; this attention to detail has created a sumptuous Cognac with depth and complexity.

The harvest of 2004 is said to have produced excellent, desirable wines with a balance of sugars and acidity. As a result, this expression is characterized by its floral finesse and exceptional length on the palate, typical of this terroir. The calcareous and mineral-rich soils of the Grande Champagne give particularly expressive wines, perfect for making eaux-de-vie that only improve with extended maturation.

Set among 106 hectares of vineyards, the Thorin estate has expanded considerably since it was taken over by second-generation distiller Claude from his father, André Thorin. Whether it’s wine, Pineau de Charente or Cognac, Claude focuses on producing everything on-site -- from field to bottle. Placed in the heart of the Grande Champagne growing region, Maison Thorin produces premier cru Cognac from Folle Blanche grapes, which had almost disappeared from France after the phylloxera epidemic in the 1880s. This company may still be young, but by taking inspiration from centuries of knowledge, they carry on the traditions of Cognac production with as much passion as the oldest houses in Grande Champagne.

Presentation of the Bottle

Letting the quality of the liquid speak for itself, Claude Thorin Héritage Grande Champagne Cognac comes in a simple, slim 50cl bottle with cream and black labels and gold foil on the neck.

How to Enjoy Claude Thorin Héritage Grande Champagne Cognac

This exceptional vintage deserves to be savored slowly. Serve it in tulip glasses after a fine dinner, with dessert or simply on its own.
