Description

Chateau de Beaulon Millésime 1983 Cognac: a Year to Remember

Made from grapes harvested in the Fins Bois cru, the Chateau de Beaulon Millésime 1983 Cognac has been aged in fine-grained French oak for a significant time before being bottled. As a single harvest vintage expression, this is a wonderful snapshot of an exceptional year for Cognac.

The autumn of 1983 saw a bountiful crop - for the second year in a row - and is considered a vintage of near-perfect grapes: rich, ripe with perfect balance and length. As the producer explains: “At Château de Beaulon the potential of the 1983 grape harvest was realized immediately and réserves were made. As a single estate producer, the quality of all our Cognacs is guaranteed. Unlike large Cognac houses, we only use grapes from our own vineyards and eaux-de-vie distilled and aged in our own cellars; this traceability enables us to produce a vintage Cognac.”

Chateau de Beaulon dates back to the 15th Century when the De Vinsons family built it under the reign of Louis XI. It was purchased by the Beaulon family about 30 years later and passed down through the generations. In the 17th century, the Chateau was passed over to the Bishops of Bordeaux, who took to tending the vineyards and realized the full potential of the area for making quality wines and eaux-de-vie.

Some 300 years later, Christian Thomas became the owner of the Chateau and its vineyards in 1965, and in 1987 it was declared a historical monument. While the world has changed a lot over the years, this house sticks to tradition, only making eaux-de-vie from grapes harvested on-site. The grapes used include Colombard, Folle Blanche and Montils varieties, often abandoned by other growers due to their low yields, and the vineyards are strictly organic, both for the sake of the environment and (of course) for the taste.

Cognac Chateau de Beaulon remains a family-run business under the watchful eye of Christian Thomas, and all aspects of production remain faithful to the traditions of the 17th century. We hope it will stay that way for years to come.

How to Enjoy Chateau de Beaulon Millésime 1983 Cognac

The perfect digestif, this is a vintage Cognac to enjoy in good company, on special occasions, or any occasion when you have plenty of time to savor the moment. Pour into a tulip glass and wait a few moments to allow the aromas to fully open up before taking a sip. Simply wonderful.

About Château de Beaulon Cognac

The beautiful façade and setting of the Chateau de Beaulon Cognac estate is a fitting setting for producing fine cognac. The chateau itself dates back to the year 1480, with it entering into the hands of the Beaulon family in 1510. The family name remains the same to this day, although it is now run by the very capable Christian Thomas. Chateau de Beaulon Cognac has always been, and continues to be, created purely from the fruits of a single vineyard, and is recognized around the world as being a highly desirable, artisan produced cognac.
