Description
Journey to the Past: Chabasse Vintage 1973 Cognac
On his journeys through the cellars at Maison Chabasse, Master Blender René-Luc Chabasse occasionally comes across small batches of old eaux-de-vie that have lain forgotten for years or even decades. These rare gems may be available in only small quantities, but they make up for it in the quality of their taste and aromas. Chabasse Vintage 1973 Cognac represents the results of a single harvest in the Petite Champagne growing region, a snapshot in time; its rich, complex aromas, length on the palate and rancio character testify to its prestigious past.
Maison Chabasse is an independent Cognac house with a global depth; indeed, their Cognacs are renowned and enjoyed the world over. Their ancestral 17th-century estate lies in the town of Saint-Jean d’Angely, north of Cognac. Still in the hands of the Chambasse family, it’s run by Réné-Luc Chabasse, a direct descendant of the estate’s founder Jean-Baptiste Chabasse. This quirky Cognac house enjoys combining the traditional and the contemporary, both in the flavours of their releases as well as the packaging.
Presentation of the Bottle
The stunning packaging is as distinct as the liquid contained within: a straight-sided bottle shape gives a vintage feel, further heightened by the natural cork stopper and wire cage around the neck. Two herons grace the glass, almost framing the intricate label. Each bottle is individually numbered and arrives in a polished wooden case lined with silk.
How to Enjoy Chabasse Vintage 1973 Cognac
To fully appreciate the individuality of this vintage, we suggest enjoying it neat in a tulip glass - after letting it rest for 30 seconds to develop fully. A dash of water may be added to allow the aromas to open up further.
