Description
An Adventure with A.E Dor: The 1979 Fins Bois Cognac
Many collectors are aware of AE Dor’s cultural standing in the world of Cognac, and their importance as a distiller in the Jarnac region of Grande Champagne. Established in 1858, the passion has been passed down through the family, earning them the nickname as the “Antiquaire du Cognac”. This particular 1979 Fins Bois Cognac is a delightful embodiment of the most intense, glorious flavors that are produced by the Fins Bois region, all the while representing the heritage and history of the famous A.E Dor maison.
The company is renowned for its extremely wide range of vintages thanks to Amedée Eduard Dor’s hard work, hunting for the best and oldest Cognacs of the region throughout the late 1800s. A.E Dor is most famous for its aging cellar, nicknamed “Le Paradis”, where some of its oldest Cognacs are stored in wax-sealed demijohns, a true paradise for any Cognac connoisseur. This family of master blenders are known for their unique collections, which include beautifully presented decanters and vintages as old as 1840!
What makes this Cognac so special is not only its provenance from one particular cru - but also its single vintage made exclusively with eaux-de-vie distilled in 1979. This high-end blend has spent 40 years ageing in humid cellars.
A must-have product for any discerning Cognac drinker. A.E Dor’s Cognacs are often sought after because of the maturation process they go through. Left in French limousin oak barrels with a capacity of up to 500 liters, they are aged in a cellar that has been selected for its particular level of humidity, which many believe is the secret to the blender’s high quality products.
The 1979 vintage is particularly powerful with notes of coconut, exotic spices, almond and hazelnut. Despite its strong flavors, the Cognac is not overbearing thanks to its Fins Bois provenance. It presents elegant aromas on the nose, a predominantly floral bouquet with notes of rancio bud.
On the palate the nutty notes of almond, hazelnut and coconut are rounded out by a gentle hit of delicate spices with a long and strong finish.
How to Serve
Enjoy this cognac as a post-dinner digestif. Serve over ice or neat in a snifter, the nutty notes of this vintage are particularly well-matched with a cheese course.
Presentation of the Bottle
In true A.E Dor fashion, the bottle is old-fashioned, traditional and elegant. Its wax seal a subtle nod to the demijohns hidden away in “le paradis”, a true hallmark of quality, hard work, heritage and passion.
Emblazoned with the wax seal of approval, this special reserve will sit nicely in a drinks cabinet or bar shelf, to be taken down and enjoyed exclusively on a special occasion.
The bottle comes with a decorative presentation case for display or gifting purposes.
