Description

An Adventure with AE Dor: the 1969 Petite Champagne Cognac

Many collectors are aware of AE Dor’s cultural standing in the world of Cognac, and their importance as a distiller in the Jarnac region of Grande Champagne. Established in 1858, the passion has been passed down through the family, earning them the nickname as the “Antiquaire du Cognac”. With its XO vintage and peculiar provenance, the 1969 Petite Champagne from A.E Dor is a rare find for both serious collectors and occasional Cognac-drinkers.

The company is renowned for its extremely wide range of vintages thanks to Amedée Eduard Dor’s hard work, hunting for the best and oldest Cognacs of the region throughout the late 1800s. A.E Dor is most famous for its aging cellar, nicknamed “Le Paradis”, where some of the oldest Cognacs are stored in wax-sealed demijohns, a true paradise for any Cognac connoisseur.

This family of master blenders is known for their unique collections, which include beautifully presented decanters and vintages as old as 1840! What makes this A.E Dor’s Cognacs so special is the maturation process that they go through.

Left in French limousin oak barrels with a capacity of up to 500 liters for a minimum of 50 years. They are aged in a humid cellar that has been selected for its particular level of humidity, which many believe is the secret to the blender’s high-quality Cognacs.

This particular vintage is special as it contains eaux-de-vie from the Petite Champagne region, rather than A.E Dor’s native Grande Champagne region. This particular vintage produces fruity aromas and roundness to the mouth, with an intense and surprising experience on the palate.

The nose of this 1969 vintage is sophisticated, an especially floral bouquet followed by dried fruits and spices, with notes of linden flowers and cinnamon dominating. On the palate, the exotic mix of spices is further enhanced by notes of chocolate and cocoa, with traces of coffee and butter. A surprisingly smooth finish for this particular XO.

How to Serve

A Cognac of this vintage should be served in a tulip glass, neat, and left for breath for around 30 seconds before enjoying.

Presentation of the Bottle

In true A.E Dor fashion, the bottle is old-fashioned, traditional and elegant. Its wax seal a subtle nod to the demijohns hidden away in “paradis”, a true hallmark of quality, hard work, heritage and passion.

Emblazoned with the wax seal of approval, this special reserve will sit nicely in a drinks cabinet or bar shelf, to be taken down and enjoyed exclusively on a special occasion.
