Nose: finest rancio aromas, in particular dry walnut, prune, a touch of black olive, and notes of mocha, roasted coffee, and chocolate.

Palate: powerful and heady thanks to its tannins, coated by time.

Description

La Tour Vieille Banyuls Vin de Meditation Vin doux naturelle

A gem from the heart of Roussillon, Domaine La Tour Vieille's Banyuls Vin de Méditation is a sublime expression of this storied region. Using an age-old technique of blending wines from multiple years, this oxidative wine offers a sensory journey that extends beyond the traditional wine experience. Each sip reveals deep layers of history, terroir, and masterful winemaking.

Origin: A Deeply Rooted Domaine

The Domaine La Tour Vieille was established in 1982 when Vincent Cantié took over several parcels of family vineyards in Collioure. Later, Christine Campadieu brought her family's vineyards in Banyuls, expanding the domaine's footprint in the region. With their combined efforts, they cultivate 13 hectares of vines on the challenging, terraced slopes of the region, producing dry red and white wines along with reductive and oxidative Banyuls.

Production Process: A Journey Through Time

Domaine La Tour Vieille categorizes their Banyuls wines into non-oxidative and oxidative, with the Vin de Méditation falling into the latter category. This particular wine is a blend from multiple vintages, all of which have been aged for several years in exposure to oxygen. This emblematic Banyuls' foundation dates back to the 1952 vintage and is aged in a "perpetual barrel", a unique process where old wine "educates" the younger wine added to it in small quantities. This method, akin to the solera process, ensures an intriguing blend of very old wines that can continue to mature gracefully for years.

Serving Suggestion: Perfect for Contemplation

As the name suggests, Banyuls Vin de Méditation is a wine meant for savoring slowly and thoughtfully. The complexity and depth of its flavors make it an ideal partner for contemplative moments or a great companion to your favorite book. It also pairs beautifully with a variety of desserts and cheese.
