Description

The Power of 3: Rémy Martin Tercet Craft Cognac

Three artisans. A trifecta of creative power. Harnessing their creative skills simultaneously, Rémy Martin Tercet Cognac is inspired by the Wine Master, the Master Distiller and the Cellar Master: Francis Nadeau, Jean-Marie Bernard and Baptiste Loiseau.

Illuminating the exciting path of craft Cognac, the trio blended the Tercet using grapes grown in the celebrated Fine Champagne crus, the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne.

This Cognac has been created to mirror the characters of its makers, and is harmonious, aromatic and certainly unlike anything else Rémy Martin has ever done before. It is also a symbol of true friendship; friends that have come together to collaborate on a creative level.

It will be the first permanent expression to feature in the Rémy Martin collection since the 1898 Cognac was launched in 2010. Loiseau said that the Tercet represented a “new milestone in the history of the house” and said “other innovations will come within the next two years” - so watch this space.

It all began when Loiseau joined the Rémy Martin maison in 2007, and discovered a variety of eaux-de-vie that were “pure with expressive fruit aromas”. He shared his findings with Bernard and Nadeau, so they could work together and create a new Cognac that “varied slightly in tonality” to the classic Rémy Martin characteristics.

The project lasted a decade, and was carried out using just a few select French oak casks, each containing 350-liters. They were reserved for the eaux-de-vie following the grape harvest of 2009.

Unlike a lot of the larger Cognac houses, Rémy Martin continues to distill their Cognacs on the lees in small copper stills.

“We had to see the process through to the end,” explained Loiseau. “It was important to find the best casks and the right ratio of new wood to reveal the potential of this pure eaux-de-vie and to shape their intensity. “It was necessary to enhance them through maturation without crushing them to highlight their acid notes and tone.” The Tercet Cognac has initially been released in the US in limited amounts, with larger quantities to follow.

Presentation of the decanter

The faces and signatures of the trio are featured on the packaging of Tercet Cognac, symbolizing their union of varying savoir-faire. It has been bottled at 42% ABV.
