Description

Park Borderies Mizunara Single Cask 2004: East and West meet in this Mizunara-matured masterpiece

The Park Borderies Mizunara Single Cask 2004 is one of a series of Mizunara Cognacs released by the Tessendier brothers, combining French Cognac craftsmanship with the exciting flavors found in Japanese oak. A single cru, single-cask Cognac that scored a prestigious 93 points by Wine Enthusiast, this was also featured in the top 100 spirits of 2019.

The Borderies Mizunara Single Cask 2004 is first aged in traditional Limousin oak casks, before being finished in Japanese Mizunara oak for a period of six months. Traditionally, these oak casks are used to age whisky, but their use in Cognac adds a new dimension to the blend. This particular example was distilled in 2004, and the time it has spent maturing in oak sourced from the legendary Nikko National Park in central Japan gives the Cognac a complex and spicy character alongside the typical soft and floral elements found in a Borderies blend.

Cognac Park's goal is ultimately to please Cognac connoisseurs by providing expressions that perfectly represent the terroir they are from, their vintage distillation year or the unique experience you get from sipping a single cask Cognac. Taken from one single barrel, one cru and one particular vintage, this charismatic Cognac from the Maison Park delivers a consistent and complex collection of flavors with every sip you take - a true snapshot of the fruitful yield harvested 16 years ago, with the added excitement of an exotic aging process.

For those that enjoy a Japanese whisky, this is the perfect meeting point between the two spirits, an innovative and unique collection that celebrates fusing traditional technique with contemporary craft ideas to create something truly unique.

The Mizunara range is a limited series, with each release coming in at around 600 bottles.

Presentation of the Bottle

Presented in a collection of cohesive designs, the Borderies Mizunara Single Cask 2004 features a unique round bottle shape and Japanese writing on its neck and label. The limited-edition 700 ml bottle has a handcrafted, contemporary feel and is certainly one to try if you're looking to taste something less traditional.

How to Enjoy

After tasting your Cognac Park Borderies Mizunara Single Cask 2004, leave a small amount in the bottom of the glass. A few minutes later you'll discover new aromas and appreciate the exciting new flavors delivered by a Mizunara-matured Cognac. The master blenders at Cognac Park recommend drinking this blend in a tulip glass at 18°C to appreciate its aromatic finesse.

Cognac Park also provides some pairing recommendations for this particular blend, including trout tataki with yuzu zest, crunchy vegetables, green apple and candied ginger. The roundness and texture of the Cognac will match the melting texture of the trout.
