Description
A Borderies Delight from one of the region’s finest producers
Ever wanted to delve into the delights of the highly-coveted Borderies terroir? Look no further than the Grosperrin No.84 Borderies Cognac that has been expertly sourced by Guilhem Grosperrin as one of his Cognac de Collection. As with the majority of Grosperrin Cognacs, they all have a fantastic backstory, and are selected from only the finest pockets of the region.
This Borderies blend comes from a small farm whose owner is one of the most recognized personalities in the Cognac world. Its nose expresses all the unique qualities of the Borderies cru, including notes of iris and violet, with a mineral-like quality.
In the mouth, the attack is full-bodied and frank, and the creamy texture makes it a fantastic Cognac indeed. The finish is rich in red berries, and is guaranteed to please. The Borderies cru is arguably the most sought after of all, comprising mostly clay and flint stones.
Read more about the significance of the terroir here on our blog. Grosperrin believes that the quality of a Cognac is directly related to the quality of the individual producing and maturing it.
By visiting each winegrower and vineyard, hearing the story of the distillery and maturing techniques, he understands the precious nature of a Cognac before even tasting it. Each one of the Cognacs that he selects for the Collection tells its own story - one of older Cognac making techniques, without technology or guaranteed abundant harvests. Grosperrin is one of the last independent Cognac houses.
As a broker, Jean made partnerships with a number of producers who opened their doors to him and allowed him to buy some of their most precious stocks. The company philosophy is to maintain individual grower batches, without blending them with others, producing a wide array Cognacs from all appellations.
Presentation of the bottle
This Cognac has been proofed at 57,3% ABV. It arrives in a slim, sleek decanter like the rest of the Cognac de Collection, and with a simple wooden box.
How to enjoy
To experience the full breadth of aroma and flavor, enjoy this precious nectar neat in a snifter glass, at room temperature. We recommend also trying it over ice, to witness the possibilities of flavor.
About Grosperrin Cognac
The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.
Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
