A Borderies Cognac from the Grosperrin Cognac de Collection
A Cognac from a small farm in the smallest cru of the region, the Grosperrin No.79 Borderies Cognac is a fine member of the Cognac de Collection. Produced just a few kilometers from Saintes, apart from that, unfortunately, its story remains largely unknown. Although an anonymous part of the Collection, it certainly justifies its presence in the collection due to its high quality. There are only one hundred liters available of this Cognac - so it’s only available until stocks last.
The Borderies cru is arguably the most sought after of all, comprising mostly clay and flint stones. Read more about the significance of the terroir here on our blog.
Grosperrin believes that the quality of a Cognac is directly related to the quality of the individual producing and maturing it. By visiting each winegrower and vineyard, hearing the story of the distillery and maturing techniques, Grosperrin understands the precious nature of a Cognac before even tasting it. Each one of the selected Cognacs for the Collection tells its own story - one of older Cognac making techniques, without technology or guaranteed abundant harvests.
Grosperrin is one of the last independent Cognac houses. As a broker, Jean made partnerships with a number of producers who opened their doors to him and allowed him to buy some of their most precious stocks. The company philosophy is to maintain individual grower batches, without blending them with others, producing a wide array Cognacs from all appellations.
About Grosperrin Cognac
The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.
Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
