Eye: Amber dress. A high degree of alcohol content.

Nose: Mineral to taste, with a floral touch of narcissus and daffodil. It has a significant body, slightly waxy.

Palate: The attack is lively and direct, and the mineral side of the Borderies expresses itself fully, with even a flinty side. It has aromatic power but is well balanced, there is no burn on the palate. An initial rancio is present, giving it an almost a smoked side. The floral notes return for the finale. The final is long, with pastry notes.

"12 Years" Borderies Cognac de Collection from Grosperrin

Produced in the region of Buries, the Grosperrin "12 Ans" Borderies Cognac is a special Cognac with a wonderful story behind it. It was created by two brothers who are now retired and grew their vines adhering to tradition and savoir-faire of the region. It is a fine example of the Borderies terroir, the smallest in the region, exhibiting everything that a great Cognac from this cru should. It is full bodied and luxurious, taking the drinker on a journey of aromatic bliss.

Grosperrin believes that the quality of a Cognac is directly related to the quality of the individual producing and maturing it. By visiting each winegrower and vineyard, hearing the story of the distillery and maturing techniques, Grosperrin understands the precious nature of a Cognac before even tasting it. Each one of the selected Cognacs for the Collection tells its own story - one of older Cognac making techniques, without technology or guaranteed abundant harvests.

Grosperrin is one of the last independent Cognac houses. As a broker, Jean made partnerships with a number of producers who opened their doors to him and allowed him to buy some of their most precious stocks. The company philosophy is to maintain individual grower batches, without blending them with others, producing a wide array Cognacs from all appellations.

Presentation

Bottled at 50.8% ABV, Grosperrin never adds color, sugar nor caramel to adjust the flavoring - making their Cognacs easier to drink.

How to enjoy

This is a complex Cognac that deserves to be enjoyed neat, contemplatively.

About Grosperrin Cognac

The independent Cognac house of Grosperrin is a relatively new one in the region, having only been established in 1999 by its founder, Jean Grosperrin. Grosperrin is based in Saintes which sits between the terroirs of Fins Bois and Borderies and it is today run by Jean’s son, Guilhelm, who took over in 2004 at just 23 years old.

Guilhelm’s mission is to discover producers all across the region in order to create truly unique Cognacs from the six crus. This vision was made possible by the fantastic relationships Jean Grosperrin built with producers, and that Guilhelm has since built on and expanded. Today, Grosperrin works with over 150 Cognac producers, from which Guilhelm will meticulously select barrels to craft into exquisite end bottles.
