Description
Revisiting the Grapes of Yesteryear - Godet’s Single Grape Selection - Montils
Try the Montils grape variety with Godet Single Grape Selection Cognac, a rare and precious find in the Charente.
For even the most discerning drinkers of Cognac, most of the blends they drink will be produced using eaux-de-vie distilled from Ugni Blanc grapes (in fact, 98% of grape production in Cognac is Ugni Blanc).
Godet, being one of the most distinct and distinguished domaines in Cognac, are choosing to do things a little differently, revisiting the grapes of yesteryear with their Single Grape selection. Four varieties are available: Ugni Blanc, Montils, Colombard and Folle Blanche.
Some of these rare, forgotten and fabulous grape varieties were almost entirely wiped out by the phylloxera disaster of 1875, meaning this selection is unique and highly sought amongst Cognac connoisseurs.
The Godet family, Cognac craftsmen and preservers of heritage and history, have worked tirelessly to replant the Montils, Folle Blanche and Colombard grapes in order to keep this tradition alive and continue to provide decadent and distinct drinking experiences to Cognac drinkers the world over.
Each grape variety boasts its own refined and surprising flavor profile, producing an exquisite array of aromas and a pleasant plethora of flavors on the palate. Cognac connoisseurs can now enjoy and identify individual qualities provided by each grape, an exploration of eaux-de-vie that has never before been seen in the industry.
Ran by the 15th generation of a Cognac dynasty; Jean Edouard, Maxime and Cyril Godet have taken the heritage, history and craftsmanship of their ancestors before them and ran with it, elevating the estate by creating a legendary and luxurious brand with 500 years of savoir-faire under their belt.
What makes Godet stand out on the Cognac market is their La Rochelle location, the unique, salty and humid environment works magic on the eaux-de-vie during the aging process. Thanks to this climate and the single grape selection, this truly makes for a unique and stand-out sensory exploration of Cognac at its best.
How to Enjoy
Each grape variety should be enjoyed neat, ensuring the palate is cleansed before tasting, if possible, tasting each Single Grape Cognac alongside one another makes for a more intense and exciting tasting session, meaning you can identify each individual flavor profile by comparing and contrasting each Cognac.
Presentation of the Bottle
A timeless yet traditional bottle design is a Godet signature, and each Single Grape bottle exemplifies this with its stunning presentation.
Elegant detailing on the label and the wax seal stopper not only reinforce the superior quality of this rare find, but equally act as a subtle reminder of the tradition and heritage of the estate with its 500 year history.
As always, the Godet Coat of Arms is present, which was was bestowed upon the family by King Louis XIV, the three glasses featured not only symbolize the fact they are kings of their craft, that Cognac is in their blood, but equally that the family have had a huge influence on Cognac's popularity both in the past and the present, and are innovators for the future.

Good
This is 1 of the 3 Single Grape bottles (Colombard, Montils, and Folle Blanche). Out of the ranking 1 to 3, with 1 being the highest, I rank this as a 2. It is unusual that I sense a "Bourbon Whiskey" smell and flavor with this one at the 1st opening of the bottle. This may change as I open it...
Single grape different than others
learning still.... i thought it as an idea to try an unusual grape.... only by trying you can enlarge your knowledge. Simply said ... the tasting review given by Cognac Expert is exactly as I felt and clearly enjoyed with the family. The overall sweetness might not be liked by everyone , of course,...
About Godet Cognac
The house of Godet has been run by the family for 14 generations. It is a perfect example of a cognac house that deeply believes in the tradition of this spirit and its origins. At the same time, Godet manages to move with modern times, having recently created a cognac from a grape that is almost extinct in the cognac industry: Folle Blache. This cognac is called "Antarctica Godet" and was inspired by a 2-month sailing trip to the South Pole.
