Description
Camus Dark & Stormy Cognac
Camus Dark & Stormy Cognac is a unique expression with an original maritime aromatic profile that evokes sensations similar to those felt when walking on the beach on a winter’s day as you breathe in the pure and invigorating sea air.
It’s assembled with a significant proportion of eaux-de-vie that were harvested in the fall of 2010 and therefore offers a one-of-a-kind sensory experience as it is an exceptionally rare Cognac that doesn’t compare to many others on the market.
Produced at the edge of the Cognac region, Camus Dark & Stormy is distilled in a historic building in Le Bois Plage en Ré, a distillery founded in 1972 which occupies a strategic position in the heart of the island. With its origins in Ile de Ré, this Cognac retains its character from the limestone and sandy soils, which after centuries of fertilization combined with kelp from The Atlantic Ocean create unique conditions for the grapes used to produce Cognac. As a result, Cognacs created with eaux-de-vie from Ile de Ré offer a striking olfactory tasting experience with unique roundness, minerality, tone and freshness.
Île de Ré has both the highest number of days of sunshine in France (other than the Mediterranean coast) and also receives the least amount of rainfall during the summer months compared with other areas on the west Atlantic.
Camus is a Cognac house that takes pride in embracing traditional strengths whilst remaining at the forefront of science in striving to reach new levels of intensity in the aromas of their Cognacs. The house has been independently operating since 1863 and has succeeded in upholding strong family values across five generations - all in quest of producing the utmost refinement when it comes to the production of Cognac.
Presentation of the bottle
Dressed in a contemporary bottle, this Very Special Cognac unveils a deep golden color with shiny amber highlights. The curvaceous shape of the bottle allows it to stand out amongst others in a Cognac collection, meanwhile, its striking blue label work features an illustration of the Atlantic waves and a lighthouse pay homage to its Ile de Ré roots and origins.
How to enjoy
Delectable when served as an aperitif with friends, or as a starter alongside oysters. The delicate maritime character of Dark & Stormy Cognac with its subtle hints of iodine pairs harmoniously with the salinity and minerality of fresh oysters.
Serve in its pure form in a tulip glass at a temperature of 18°C. Or alternatively, the Cognac can be appreciated on the rocks, from a large tumbler glass with a few cubes of ice. If you’re a creative Cognac drinker, its maritime profile also accompanies the sweet and acidic character of lemon juice or vermouth, and so can be used as the base spirit in cocktails too.
About Camus Cognac
Since 1863, five generations of the Camus family have cultivated a single-minded passion for crafting great Cognac with their own style. Laid across 180 hectares in the smallest and rarest AOC cru - the Borderies - the Camus family has always been deeply involved in winemaking and distilling. It is this unbreakable bond between the land, the traditions and the people who live on it that helps them craft superb Cognacs. Today, it is Cyril Camus who is the bearer of all family tradition and oversees the undisputed quality of Camus Cognac. Export development and product development remain at the top, with a passion for innovation. Cyril Camus has entirely modernized the Cognac house’s interiors, relying on a fresh new take on Cognac for the new century. Instead of leather, wood and velvet in shades of brown, he opts for light colors and a combination of tradition and modern design.
