Description
Pierre Ferrand Renegade Barrel N°3 Jamaica Rum
Ferrand’s latest edition Renegade n°3 is an eau-de-vie de vin made from Cognac that has undergone a second maturation in Rum barrels that have contained Plantation Rum from the storied Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica. This delicious creation is a tribute to old master blenders who would go to the harbor in Bordeaux to collect rum barrels as they arrived from the Caribbean.
On the palate, Renegade n°3 reveals intense and fruity notes of orange, guava, and cape gooseberry, accompanied by pastry notes of almond and vanilla with a floral touch of honeysuckle. The finish is long and suave with lemongrass, pepper, and licorice, a touch of coffee, and a minty feel.
Presentation of the bottle
Showcased with an eye-catching decanter design, the presentation of this bottle is as vibrant as its contents inside. The label work and presentation box both feature a marvellous illustration of what appears to be Pierre Ferrand himself amidst a luscious setting featuring flora and fauna as well as a tropical bird – a nudge at the influence of Jamaican rum and its role in the aging process of this eau-de-vie de vin. The Ferrand crest takes center stage above the illustration and reinforces the “renegade” collection as a proud range of the Ferrand house. Topped with a black cork stopper and matching presentation box, the design and appearance of the bottle alone serve it well as a delightful gift idea – and that’s before you’ve had the opportunity to taste the sensational eau-de-vie contained inside.
How to enjoy
Such a complex tasting eau-de-vie de vin deserves to be enjoyed in its purest form. That’s why we suggest serving it neat (at room temperature) from a tulip glass. You could also try diluting it with tonic water and ice for those who prefer to drink their spirit long. Since this isn’t the expression of a traditional spirit, you may like to try your hand at mixing up a cocktail. Or why not serve it as you would your favorite rum? From France to America and onto Jamaica – don’t be afraid to experiment with this special offering – as that’s what its creators set out to do, it only makes sense that those fortunate enough to taste it do so too.
