Tesseron Tresor is a Grande Champagne jewel harvested at the end of the 1800s. Abel Tesseron was responsible for the distilling and the beginning of the aging process of this Cognac hundreds of years ago. Meanwhile, several generations have provided careful watch over the eaux-de-vie as the Limousin oak wooden barrels characterized its taste, aromas and flavors - decade after decade. An XO of such outstanding quality should be enjoyed on its own - at room temperature. Drinking this Cognac neat will allow its sublime tasting notes to seduce the senses sip after sip. Take the tasting experience up a notch by adding a few blocks of ice to the bottom of the glass or pairing with a fine cigar.
This is a great cognac, but my expectations may have been too high. I had a taste test with what I thought was comparable, Hennessy Paradis. Outside of the nose there was no comparison to the Paradis. May have been an unfair fight. Very Nice Cognac that most will enjoy but got great.
This review is based on a sample bottle. I genuinely don't understand why this is classified as an XO. This tastes like a very well-aged GC to me. Very smooth, long finish, a lot of honey. The sweetness is a bit too much, I won't recommend this cognac at its current price.
Tresor is top of the range within Tesseron's Signature Series. It is about 55 years old. I bought a bottle some years back when visiting the estate. It is empty long time ago. Tesseron Cognac specializes in high-end Cognac, exclusively producing “XO and beyond” blends from their ancestral home in Chateauneuf-sur-Charente, which lies between Cognac and Angouleme. When founder Abel Tesseron, whose face features on the company’s logo, acquired the property in the late 19th century, he patiently conserved his stocks of eaux-de-vie in the 12th-century crypt located deep underneath the domain, selling his matured masterpieces to various larger Cognac houses. These reserved and rare stocks have become legendary amongst Cognac connoisseurs the world over. It was, however, only in 2003 that the fourth generation of Tesserons made the decision to release a range under their own name, armed with an unrivalled Cognac craftsmanship and fueled by the legacy left by their grandfather, the iconic brand Tesseron Cognac was born.
The Tesserons are also active in wine production, owning the esteemed Chateau Pontet-Canet, a Pauillac classified property producing Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux Wine.
