This single estate Leyrat Cognac XO is produced using 100% Ugni Blanc grapes and contains blends between 15 and 20 years old. The blend also contains a small portion of eaux-de-vie from the 1920s! Thanks to the estate's location, it has excellent chalky soil and above average sun exposure, rendering the eaux-de-vie produced distinct and unique when compared with others of the Fins Bois region.

The unique triple aging process means that the woody, earthy tones of Layrat's Cognacs are subtle and never overbearing, even for the oldest Cognacs. First left to age in new casks, they are then placed in 4-12 year old casks, before finally being matured in "exhausted" or older casks to finish the process.

The cellar masters at Leyrat have created a mouthwatering masterpiece that has an incredibly complex character, with nutty notes complemented by the sweet, butter tones of creme caramel and fresh pastries. A little spice (nutmeg, vanilla) adds a beautiful balance to this Vieille Reserve, ending on a punchy, peppery finish.

Those more refined palates may pick up floral hints of violet, a typical characteristic of this particular cru.
