Comandon XO Genesis 200 Years Anniversary Cognac marks the 200th anniversary of the house of Comandon Cognac, highlighting the three successive political regimes: since the Napoleonic era, then the Monarchy and finally the Republic. A history of how time marks significant moments in history – the very same component that gives Cognac its renowned authenticity.
Made up of eaux-deove from, the Grande Champagne, Fins Bois and Bons Bois regions, this Cognac underwent a distillation on the lees, followed by a damp cellar aging process in Boutiers St-Trojan, Cognac.
Notably, Comandon XO Genesis is the first Cognac ever to be crafted through the limited handmade process of 'Rarified Cognac System'. This system consists in aging Cognacs in rare casks, this rare eaux-de-vie is then blended with one unique XO Cognac crafted from a single batch. Typically, the cask finish Cognac is matured in old wine barrels.
This extra matured Cognac was ‘rarified’ with a blend selected from the Grande Champagne cru of a vintage 2004 cask (a rare cask finished in Château Desmirail, Ex-Margaux barrel, Grand Cru Classé in 1855). This ex-wine barrel was selected and supplied directly by Denis Lurton who personally participated in this unique collaboration with Maison Comandon.
The result is a very complex Cognac that strikes the balance between the intrinsic matured XO influences and the rare cask finish Cognac blended to make this unique offering in mark of Comandon’s 200 year anniversary.
Dressed in an extra luxurious decanter, to mark the special occasion, Comandon XO Genesis 200 Years Anniversary Cognac pulls out all of the stops when it comes to presentation. Its unique form and sumptuous curves topped with a glass bottle stopper display an elegantly presented Cognac to be showcased center stage within a collection. Having found its alcohol content naturally over time, this vintage Cognac contains unparalleled elegance and infinite depth that should be enjoyed one sip at a time. With an extremely forward-thinking marketing agenda and a particularly hands-on approach when it comes to the music and entertainment industry, Comandon have carved themselves an interesting space for a niche approach to the Cognac business.
They do an exceptional job of producing small, artisanal batches that offer rare and limited glimpses into one particular terroir, or one exceptional harvest, whether the eaux-de-vie are younger or older. For this reason, they defy tradition in the Cognac world, who believe that “older is better” and producing the same Cognac year in, year out is the end objective. Comandon instead work in tandem with nature, initiating unique collaborations for their single cask collection, and never fearing experimentation.
